• Gordon’s Bay - This charming small town is nestled at the base of the Hottentots-Holland mountains and features an old village. It also boasts a Blue Flag beach known as Bikini Beach.

The surrounding farms offer wine and cider tastings. Brandy tasting and cellar tours are also available at the Oude Molen Distillery just outside of town. In town, the Elgin Apple Museum is one of the oldest remaining buildings in Grabouw.

• Elgin Valley Honey - Surrounded by dramatic mountains, Elgin Valley is a lush, expansive area located in the Overberg region of South Africa. This beautiful valley is about 70 km from Cape Town, southeast along the N2 freeway, just beyond the Hottentots-Holland Mountains.

This valley is one of the most highly commercialized agricultural areas, producing 60% of the national apple crop. Recently, there has been a significant shift towards increased wine production due to its cool climate.

Elgin wines and tourism have consequently become important parts of the valley’s economy. Look out for the apple and pear orchards, greenhouse cut flowers, and rose farming.

• Hermanus - Discover this small town located on the southern coast of the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It is renowned for Southern Right Whale watching from June to early December each year.

Keep an eye out for other whales like the Humpback and Bryde’s whales as they visit the South African coast in winter for mating. Enjoy a walk on the 11 km coastal trail as you search for the perfect spot to view the whales. The cliffs provide an ideal vantage point to observe these gentle giants.

The surroundings are as stunning as the gliding whales, and you can easily spend the entire day along the coast. There are several wooden benches where you can sit, have a snack, and take a picture of your loved ones. Watch for these whales as they glide close to the shore.

• Old Harbour Museum - This is one of the top local attractions, featuring several exhibitions that explain the whaling industry. Declared a national monument in 1970, it is now a Provincial Heritage Site.

Explore one of the few fishing harbors in the world that has been preserved intact. Look out for the historic fishing boats along the slopes and indigenous veldkos in old brine tanks. There is also re-established coastal fynbos along the cliffs.

The site also includes the Hans Moore Environmental Centre and Boat Shed. Explore the local area with the South African Shark Conservancy Centre - Old Perlemon Hatchery. Among the attractions is the De Wet’s Huis Photo Museum, which houses a collection of photos depicting historical Hermanus. It also showcases furniture from schoolmaster Paterson and fishing reels and trophies from Bill Selkirk.

• Stony Point Penguin Colony - Visit this penguin colony with over 3,600 penguins and get up close to these adorable birds. Located in the quaint coastal town of Betty’s Bay in the Overberg, Stony Point is home to the African Penguins.

Explore Kogelberg Nature Reserve, considered by many to be the most beautiful Cape Nature protected area. Located 100 km from Cape Town beneath the Kogelberg Mountains on the scenic R44 ocean drive between Pringle Bay and Kleinmond.
