10/10 township tour - The tour was really great, guides were really professional and knowledgeable. Great half day tour all around to bring a family or as a solo traveller like myself.

Enlightened visit to township Langa, Cape town. - My husband Han and I had an unforgettable tour in the township Langa of Cape town. Asekhona of the Portswood hotel advised us to go on a private tour with tour guide Owen. We booked through her and had the day of our life during our holidays.
Also many thanks to the guide of Langa itself Zamile. Zamile give us a very understandable and realistic story. We received a lot of information about the history and every day life in Langa during our almost 2 hours walk. Zamile knows the real story, because he is born and raised in Langa. We visited several private homes and public places in the township. Tour agency guide Owen stayed with us during the tour. This guided tour by Zamile was superb! A truly must do excursion, while staying in or around Cape town. We heard and saw a lot about the real life in a township. The inhabitants we saw were friendly and smiling. Little girls performed for us with singing and dancing. I even had to join in. It was a fantastic and unforgettable day! We are so glad we did this tour. You read a lot about dangers and advises not to visit a township, but with a good organised tour where you have a guide from the township itself, someone who knows the people there and give them some money while showing us their way of living and a guide from an agency who stays with you it is really safe as safe means in the world, because nobody know what will come. We were not the only group. Especially young people were also visiting the same way as we did and that is very good for townships for the future. Gor their imago. And for both: the people who have to live in a township and the people who visit and hear and see the real story. So blessed we have visited. And tell the real story by writing this review. We hope more will follow us and read reviews of people who like us visited and wo don't listen to people with no experience at all.

A glimpse into local culture - I booked this 2nd tour with Stuart after the unforgettable Cape Peninsula Tour the day before.
Stuart used to live in Langa & collaborated with a current resident guide, Namhla to provide the latest insights of the township.
We started with lunch at a local butchery where I chose the meat for barbeque, paid by weight, waited patiently for the meat to be cooked over slow fire. Got to taste the local staple, pap, a white maize porridge cooked to be a soft & fluffy cake, very delicious! Tried the flavourful chakalaka (beans with mixed vegetables) but a little too spicy for my palette.
As we walked through the township, I was introduced to its history in the museum; its past glory at the shopping street; the local women business owners; the 3 types of housing with vast varying living conditions on sanitation, water & electricity supply, climate protection; the education & health facilities as well as the art scene.
I was flattered when a cafe owner commented that I was not a tourist sitting in a car & snapping photos as if visiting a zoo. He welcomed my visit by walking & listening to their heartbeat.
It's a short visit with just a glimpse into the local culture but it enriched my experience of South Africa. I would never comprehend the challenges but appreciate the information given by Stuart & Namhla.
These two professional guides had my interest at heart, prioritizing my safety over everything that they didn't take me to the "danger" zone in the township, which I appreciated very much!
I highly recommend this tour for an enriching experience in Cape Town!

Learning, Exciting, Interesting! - This was an amazing experience. When traveling it’s great to do thrilling activities but including a piece of history in your trip is always needed. This tour was great. I learned a lot, all my questions were answered and I got answers to things I didn’t think about. We had booked Stuart for a few other things and he made us feel at home. He was very prompt with pickup as well. It really felt like I had an uncle in Cape Town with his warm welcoming spirit. Namhla was the one who specifically showed us around in the township and she was amazing! She was so excited to welcome us, it felt like we were reunited with family we haven’t seen in a long time. I enjoyed all parts of this activity. I’m grateful for the team! If you’re hesitating on booking…just do it.

Amazing experience! A must-do in Cape Town! - A very interesting visit, it's really worth dedicating some well spent time in Langa, to fully understand the history of South Africa.
Nela is an excellent guide, he told us many interesting facts about South African history and society while taking my girlfriend and me around the little museum and the streets of the township.
Make sure you visit Guga S'thebe cultural centre, there's some amazing art exposed inside!

A Unique Window into the Reality of Township Life - This tour was a highlight of our visit to Cape Town. It offers a window into what life is really like for the millions who live in the townships (about 60% of Cape Town's 5 million residents). Stuart, the company's owner, picked us up at a mutually agreed location and drove us out to Langa. During the drive, he gave us helpful context on the history of Cape Town, how the townships arose and changes since the end of apartheid. Once we arrived in Langa, we were greeted by Namhla, one of his guides and a Langa native. She took the lead for the rest of the township visit. Namhla, 28, was fabulous - highly knowledgeable, friendly and open to any and all questions. We sampled local fare for lunch at Jordan's, visited the local history museum, toured various residential sections, learned about the local economy and popped into a performing arts center for youth. Then Stuart, who remained with us the entire afternoon, drove us back to the city center. We felt safe the whole time, but as a Westerner, Langa - the oldest and probably safest township - is not a place you would want to visit without a guide. This is a unique experience, highly recommend.

The creatives shine. - Nela showed us a beautiful, creative, spiritual side of Langa. We met artists and teachers who believe in their community.
