This is not the easiest... - This is not the easiest hike but the rewarding views make it worth it. I did the sunset tour and it was breathtaking. Our guide kept us safe and found a less rocky trail on the way down. I would recommend this hike but not without a knowledgeable guide

My husband and I had a fantastic private hike with Cape Town Trails at the start of February 2026. Jarrod was a brilliant guide - he was relaxed, easy to chat to about a whole host of topics and keen to share his knowledge of the flora and fauna (which is extremely impressive) as well as the history of Cape Town and South Africa more generally. He is clearly passionate about the local area as well as the outdoors and this comes across in his whole approach and ethos.
Given it was a private hike, Jarrod supplied some fantastic snacks / refreshments for us (including some great cheese and biltong, amongst a whole array of food that appeared from his tardis-like pack!).
I cannot recommend Jarrod and Cape Town Trails highly enough. The booking and payment process was clear and simple, Jarrod patiently answered all my questions and tailored the hike to our needs / interests and provided a great set of pre-hike instructions. We will definitely do another hike with Jarrod when we return to Cape Town.

Amazing hike and views with super guide! - While I have to admit the heights got me a bit trembly this is an amazing experience with a superb guide in Jarrod. Jarrod makes sure you are safe and has great routes so you will get the beat views an experience! If you at all feel the itch to climb a mountain this is the way to go!

Incredible hike up table mountain! - We had an amazing experience climbing table mountain via the India venster route with Jarrod. Jarrod was a great guide, he made us feel safe at all times, we would highly recommend him, the hike was one of the highlights of our trip!

First time up Lion’s head - It was my first time hiking up Lion’s head, and I am not a hiker by any means. Jarrod was the ultimate trail guide. He is hugely passionate and knowledgeable, as he provided historical context to the mountain, city, country, as well as on related botany. We explored other paths outside the normal popular route, and this was so amazing. I will definitely hike again with him, when I’m back in Cape Town!!!

enriching experience not just hiking - Jerrod is a humorous guide who has a good sense of when it's time to take breaks, where it's a good place to take photos (and he takes good photos too ;-) ) and is good at motivating you. He skilfully guides you up the mountains with his local knowledge. What probably sets him apart from many others and why we can highly recommend him is that, while hiking, he charmingly imparts a wealth of knowledge about Cape Town, its history and its nature. This makes a tour with him truly enriching and worthwhile. In addition, his tours only take place in small groups with a similar hiking level. So you don't miss any information, have to wait or feel stressed. If you're not just looking for a guide, but an enriching experience, Jerrod is the right choice for you.

Amazing Hike - Spectacular Views - Amazing hike to the top of Lions Head with spectacular views of Cape Town and Table Mountain, 12 apostles etc. Jarrod was an incredible guide - extremely knowledgeable, helpful and kind. I would love to take another tour with him.

This was without a doubt the best thing I’ve done in Cape Town - I did the evening/night hike up Lion’s Head with Jarrod, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. I got to see both a magical sunset and the city beautifully lit up at night. Jarrod was incredibly knowledgeable, not only about the trail itself but also about the local flora and history. He had even learned about the historical connections between my country, Sweden, and South Africa, which made the experience feel very personal. He was friendly, engaging, and clearly passionate about what he does. This was without a doubt the best thing I’ve done in Cape Town and, honestly, one of the best experiences I’ve ever had while traveling. I can warmly recommend Cape Town Trails and will definitely book with Jarrod again for another hike in Cape Town!
