The trail ascending Lion’s Head follows a spiraling route encircling the mountain. At a certain point, the path transitions to rugged terrain, requiring hikers to step up and use their hands to scramble over rocks. The journey then continues steeply upward to the first ladder, followed by a traverse along a narrow ledge equipped with a chain handrail. Upon reaching a fork, hikers should turn right to ascend two rock pitches using two ladders, allowing them to continue along the path to reach the crest of the southeast ridge. Near the summit, the hike becomes a brief scramble with the final ladder leading to the 669-meter peak. At the summit of Lion’s Head, a breathtaking 360-degree view awaits, showcasing one of the three iconic peaks framing Cape Town, with Table Mountain as a backdrop. As the city lights gradually illuminate or dim, a constantly evolving panorama is revealed. A headlamp will be provided if necessary. The descent requires at least 60 minutes.
