• Robben Island Museum - In 1999, Robben Island was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list. Located 12 kilometers off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa, it was home to a maximum-security prison for decades. Political prisoners, including the father of democracy, were held there during the apartheid era.
• Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden - In May 1913, the government designated the state of Kirstenbosch for the creation of a national botanical garden. They agreed to contribute 1,000 opera annually. The Botanical Society was established on 10 June 1913 and held its first general meeting on 31 July 1913.
• Groot Constantia - In 1685, during an annual visit to the Cape, Hendrik Adriaan Van Rheede tot Drakenstein granted the grounds of Groot Constantia to Simon Van der Stel, the first governor of the Cape of Good Hope. Van der Stel constructed the house and used the land for wine production, other fruit cultivation, and cattle farming.
