Worth every penny! - A must visit while in Cape Town. Former prison inmates lead the tour and describe their experiences. This offers valuable insight. The boat ride over was pleasant, but chilly on the water. Bring a coat!

A Very Interesting Tour - A very interesting tour. A pleasant trip on the boat from the V&A dock to the island. On to a bus, when a guide talks about the outside of the prison. Then a tour of the inside given by a former inmate who describes the life. Very interesting. I remembered this stuff from news reports on the tele as a teenager but it was great to experience it first hand

A Must Do Visit - Excellent. Very enthralling to listen and interact with a political prisoner who was imprisoned with Nelson Mandela. It gave a true feel of the place. Very well organized.

Struggle to remember - Was happy to visit the place where Nelson Mandela and many other political prisoners were incarcerated during apartheid. Strongly recommended for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of South Africa's struggle for freedom.

Interesting, informative,... - Interesting, informative, and moving. Top notch guides, including actual former prisoners at Robben Island, walk you through the complete history of this place that once held Nelson Mandela for 18 of his 27 years in prison. Truly a worthwhile experience.

Very good. But seems that... - Very good. But seems that office had incorrect hotel for my pickup in morning causing our pickup to be 30 minutes late. This happened on two of our Viator tours . I would recommend that drivers get latest booking information prior to pickup

A not to be missed visit - A great trip and I rated the pickup and drop off as excellent as well as the tour of the prison itself. The guide was very authentic and good. However the experience with the round the island tour was less than ideal. We had to wait nearly 30 minutes in a hot bus for the 2nd guide to join us and the guide was really not good. There was no apology for the long wait and he was slow and pedantic and his jokes about nationality were inappropriate. Really a turn off in my view.

A meaningful place with beautiful views...that you can do on your own. - This is worth it as a place to see in Cape Town, but you can easily go on your own. We booked a tour that was a bit high, and all we got for it was a pick up because we wanted to stay around at the wharf area when we got back. The tour on the island is the same for everybody...and the ferry is the same for everybody. It would only be worth a tour in case it was the very busy season and you wanted to make sure you got tickets.
