From the mid-1960s to 1991, Robben Island functioned as South Africa’s maximum-security prison, accommodating many political prisoners, including Nelson Mandela. In 1999, Robben Island was designated a World Heritage site.
The tour then proceeds to Spice Route, a highly popular winery offering a variety of activities. Visitors can enjoy wine, craft beer, ice cream, chocolate, and gin tastings, along with delicious food.
Next, the tour visits the award-winning Babylonstoren winery, which offers numerous activities beyond wine tasting. It features a 35-hectare fruit and vegetable garden and a Garden Spa. Guests can explore the Spice Garden, an Italian Bakery, a Healing Garden, and participate in a Tea Ceremony.
