The core of Shadowbrook is a log cabin originally constructed as a summer retreat in the 1920s. It was later expanded by an English family, who added the “Fireside Room,” featuring a hanging balcony and Swiss chalet decor. Eventually, they sold the home to another family, who, for unknown reasons, abandoned it a few years later.

When the restaurant’s original partners discovered the house in 1944, it was in disrepair. It took them three years of dedicated effort to restore the structure. They then carved a steep path through the dense underbrush, transporting every piece of furniture and equipment down the challenging hillside.
