• Mission Trail Nature Preserve - The guide will highlight the entrance to these excellent hiking and biking trails as the group prepares to cross the street to the Carmel Mission. This path marks California’s first road, El Camino Real.
• Pedego Electric Bikes Carmel, CA - The adventure begins at Pedego Electric Bikes, where participants are introduced to the best way to explore Carmel-By-the-Sea. The local guide will match each person with a bike suited to their personality and height. After a safety briefing and instructions, there will be an opportunity to test the bikes in the back parking lot before setting off on the adventure.
• Carmel Mission - The group pauses at the gate to the courtyard, offering a perfect photo opportunity of this historic landmark, one of California’s oldest structures. The guide will share entertaining stories from early history while everyone enjoys the beautiful building and grounds.
• Mission Ranch Restaurant - Upon returning to the starting point, the guide will point out this excellent restaurant, a potential spot for dinner. On Friday nights, visitors might catch Clint Eastwood or his son playing jazz piano.
• Mission Ranch Restaurant - A brief stop to admire the oldest ranch in Carmel, lovingly restored by Clint Eastwood, now home to a beautiful hotel and restaurant. The peace and quiet of the quaint town become evident here. With sheep grazing in the pasture and sweeping views of Carmel River Beach and Point Lobos, it’s tempting to linger all day, but the tour must continue.
• Carmel Beach - After winding through quiet neighborhoods with stunning homes, the group stops at a Frank Lloyd Wright house at the end of Carmel Beach. Participants will learn some fun history about this home and the movie it was featured in.
• Scenic Road Walkway - Various stops along this road include a Frank Lloyd Wright house and “bootleg point,” an ideal spot for photos. While gazing across Carmel Bay at the landmarks of Pebble Beach, the guide will share entertaining stories about Carmel’s earliest residents and the history behind their homes.
• 2377 Bay View Ave - Fans might recognize this location from a famous Clint Eastwood movie.
• Village of Fae - Adding to the charm of Carmel-by-the-Sea, fairies have built an entire village nestled among the cypress trees.
• La Playa Hotel - From old to new, this beautiful iconic hotel is rich with fun stories.
• Carmel Green Lantern Inn - Visitors can see the quaint gardens and charming cottages at this 1927 Bed & Breakfast.

• La Bicyclette Restaurant - (This area may be skipped if beginners are in the group) Among the charming restaurants and shops in Carmel, this quaint European Bistro stands out with its charm.
• Flaherty’s Seafood Grill & Oyster Bar - (This area may be skipped if beginners are in the group) Discover one of the staff’s favorite seafood spots in downtown Carmel.
• Carmel Fire Department - (This area may be skipped if beginners are in the group) Visit this charming firehouse built in 1937.
• Grasings - (This area may be skipped if traffic is heavy) Covered with creeping fig vine, this charming restaurant is a local favorite, featuring a great dog-friendly patio out back.
• Tuck Box - (This area may be skipped if beginners are in the group) Built by Hugh Comstock in 1927, after his famous fairy-tale cottages, this quaint restaurant has operated as a tea room and restaurant for nearly 100 years.
• Devendorf Park - (This area may be skipped if beginners are in the group) Glance over Carmel’s central gathering place, see the quaint Koi pond in the corner, and take a restroom break if needed. Here, the eBikes will be shifted into low gear as the group approaches the steepest hill of the tour, heading to the fairy-tale cottages.
• Golden Bough Playhouse - Discover the fun history that led to this version of the Golden Bough Playhouse, a 300-seat theater now hosting top-line plays and musicals.
• The House of Hansel & Gretel - (This area may be skipped if beginners are in the group) See the charming fairy-tale cottages that started the trend in Carmel and launched architect Hugh Comstock into the hearts of early Carmelites. Originally built to house his wife Mayotta’s Otsy Totsy Dolls, this is now a private residence and one of Carmel’s most popular attractions.
• Fairy Tale Cottages of Hugh Comstock - (This area may be skipped if beginners are in the group) In one block, see six of the cutest fairy-tale cottages built by local architect Hugh Comstock. For true lovers of the style, another steep hill climb reveals five more.
• Weston Gallery - Peek into the windows of the gallery showcasing art by Edward Weston, a master of 20th-century photography.
• Dawson Cole Fine Art - Specializing in Contemporary and Modern Art by European and American Masters, the gallery features amazing bronze sculptures by local artist Richard MacDonald.
• The Valentine - The Valentine bronze sculpture by artist George Wayne Lundeen is a great spot for selfies while some in the group use the restroom before the long beachfront ride.
• First Murphy House - Built in 1902, this home was recently relocated to save it from demolition. Now housing the Carmel Heritage Society, it is the first example of Carmel’s early cottages. Michael Murphy built over 300 of Carmel’s homes.
• Pine Inn - Across the street from the Valentine and First Murphy House sits Carmel’s first Inn. Originally built in 1889 at the other end of Carmel, the hotel was later moved here, rolling down the hill on redwood logs!
• ZQP Trail to Beach - After a quick ride down the hill, the group arrives at the northern end of Carmel Beach. This trail marks the start of beautiful sand dunes covered with coastal sagebrush and coastal buckwheat.
• Carmel Beach - If not planning to return to Carmel later to explore independently, a brief stop allows participants to feel the sand under their toes.
• Carmel Cottage Inn - This charming cottage marks the beginning of the most scenic part of the ride. With white sands on the right and beautiful homes on the left, it’s hard to know where to look!
• Carmel Beach Boardwalk - As the group rides along Scenic Drive, many locals can be seen walking their dogs on this boardwalk under the Cypress trees. Look for more fairy homes in the trees.
• Clinton Walker House - Frank Lloyd Wright - Built in 1948 by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, this home fulfills Mrs. Clinton Walker’s instructions to build a home “as durable as the rocks and as transparent as the waves.” The guide will point out some of Wright’s signatures on this home and the unique design that has allowed it to survive so close to the ocean.
• Butterfly House - Frank Wynkoop’s 1951 Butterfly House has been thoughtfully reimagined by designer Jamie Bush. Featured in Architectural Digest Magazine, it is arguably one of the most expensive homes in Carmel, hitting the real estate market in 2022 for $40 million.
• Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation - This is the first home ever built on Carmel Point. With fascinating history and design, it sits on one of the most scenic points of the tour. The guide will point out some of the many native plants creating the beautiful landscaping in front of the home.
• Mara Beach Carmel - The group stops at a scenic overlook above this beach, pausing for a few minutes to admire the sweeping vistas of Point Lobos, Monastery Beach, and the Carmel River Beach. It is here that Liz Taylor and Richard Burton shot a “beach scene” in The Sandpiper.
• Carmel River State Beach - This beach marks where the Carmel River mouth creates one of Monterey County’s prime birding locations. The views are once again breathtaking.
• Lincoln Green Inn - This charming inn boasts one of the most beautiful gardens in all of Carmel, and the surrounding homes are equally spectacular.
• Carmel Mission - As the group travels along the perimeter of the Mission, they can observe the graves of those who helped establish the mission, surrounded by old abalone shells and redwood crosses. Father Junipero Serra, who founded the missions, is interred here. Don’t miss the 100-year-old pepper tree at the edge of the graveyard.

The eBike Tour of Carmel-by-the-Sea is a leisurely journey spanning roughly 12 miles. A portion of the tour concentrates on tree-dotted avenues in Carmel’s tranquil ‘Golden Rectangle’ neighborhoods. As we pedal along the 3-mile Scenic Drive beside the Ocean, you’ll be torn between breathtaking coastal views on one side and stunning homes on the other!
The diversity of the houses is truly awe-inspiring, with works by Charles Sumner Green, and Frank Lloyd Wright present. It’s a must-visit for architecture buffs.
