- Pine Inn - Carmel’s first hotel, offering a blend of historic elegance and modern comfort. Originally built in 1889 as Hotel Carmelo at Devendorf Park, it was styled as an elegant country inn using wood from San Francisco’s old Tivoli Opera House.
Sixteen years later, as the town expanded, the hotel was relocated four blocks down Ocean towards the beach. The North wing was dismantled, and the main building was transported on pine logs down the rugged dirt road.
Within a year, the hotel was refurbished and expanded with a stable and a sunroom overlooking the sea. With the assistance of local contractor M.J. Murphy, the hotel was reborn as the Pine Inn.
- The Valentine - This bronze sculpture by George Wayne Lundeen, known as The Valentine, was installed in First Murphy Park in 1994. It’s a perfect photo opportunity while some in the group take a restroom break before continuing along the beachfront.
- First Murphy House - The First Murphy House in Carmel, California, is a historic Craftsman-style home built in 1902. It features a low-pitched gable roof, wide eaves, and exposed rafters, along with a cozy interior boasting hardwood floors, fireplace mantels, and built-in cabinets. Located in a quiet neighborhood, it’s a short walk from downtown Carmel and is a cherished community landmark. It currently houses the Carmel Heritage Society.

- Clinton Walker House - Frank Lloyd Wright - The Mrs. Clinton Walker House, also known as Cabin on the Rocks, is situated on Carmel Point. Resembling a ship’s bow cutting through the waves, the house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1948 and completed in 1951 for Mrs. Clinton Della Walker of Pebble Beach. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
This house, an example of Wright’s organic architecture, is built on granite boulders, using local Carmel-stone, and features a sea-colored roof shaped like a ship’s bow. It is the only Frank Lloyd Wright house overlooking the ocean. Mrs. Clinton Walker requested a house “as durable as the rocks and as transparent as the waves.” The house offers views of Carmel Bay and Pebble Beach.
- Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation - The Tor House and Hawk Tower evoke ancient Irish stone towers. The English-style cottage garden is rich in color, texture, and fragrance. Experience the ambiance that inspired some of America’s finest poetry by original resident Robinson Jeffers and his family.
- Butterfly House - The Butterfly House, a Mid-century modern home on Carmel Point, is known for its unique wing-shaped roof, earning it the name Butterfly House. Designed and built by architect Francis W. Wynkoop, it was featured in Architectural Digest Magazine and is one of Carmel’s most expensive homes, listed at $40 million in 2023.

Begin your journey from our bike shop located in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and embark on an exploration of the charming cottages throughout Carmel. As you ride, you’ll pass by several local historic sites and travel along the picturesque Carmel coastline via Scenic Drive, a serene one-way road with a speed limit of 15 miles per hour. Along the way, you’ll encounter notable landmarks such as the Tor House, Butterfly House, Carmel River State Beach, Clint Eastwood’s Mission Ranch, and the Carmel Mission, renowned as one of California’s most authentically restored Catholic mission churches.
A minimum of four participants is required for a non-private tour to proceed. Should you book a tour date and fewer than four individuals register, we reserve the right to cancel the tour with a full refund, offer a conversion to a private guided tour (additional charges apply), merge the tour with another scheduled for a different time that day, or change the reservation to a standard rental (without a tour guide). These options will be discussed with the customer for their consent 24 hours prior to the reservation.
