Surf’s Up, Clubs Down: A Golfer’s Dream at Karibana
Trading my surfboard for a golf club, I ventured to Cartagena’s Karibana Golf Club for a day of thrilling challenges and stunning views. With the ocean breeze adding to the excitement, this championship course offered an unforgettable experience.
A Breezy Drive to Paradise
As a former professional surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean’s call, but this time, I decided to swap my surfboard for a golf club and head to the Karibana Golf Club in Cartagena. The journey began with a scenic drive narrated by Cindy, our delightful golf concierge. Her stories about Cartagena and Colombia were as vibrant as the landscapes we passed. Despite the notorious traffic, Cindy’s engaging tales made the ride feel like a breeze.
Arriving at the course, I was immediately struck by the lush tropical beauty that surrounded us. The course, designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, promised a day of thrilling challenges and breathtaking views. As someone who thrives on adventure, I couldn’t wait to see what this championship course had in store.
A Day on the Greens
The Karibana Golf Club is a golfer’s paradise, and even though I’m more at home on a surfboard, I found myself captivated by the immaculate fairways and pristine greens. The course was challenging, especially the back nine along the beach, where the ocean breeze added an extra layer of difficulty. My partner, a seasoned golfer, was in his element, scoring three pars on the front nine!
While I may not be a golfer, I embraced my role as an unofficial caddy and cheerleader, soaking in the stunning scenery and the vibrant wildlife that called the course home. From colorful birds to curious iguanas and even the occasional tarantula, the natural beauty of the course was a feast for the senses.
Relaxation and Revelry
After an exhilarating round of golf, we retreated to the elegant clubhouse for a well-deserved lunch. The gourmet dining options were as impressive as the course itself, and we savored every bite while reflecting on the day’s adventures. The club’s luxurious amenities, including a beautiful pool, provided the perfect setting for relaxation.
Cindy, ever the attentive host, ensured our return journey was as seamless as our arrival. She even surprised us with a traditional Colombian dessert made from yucca, a delightful end to an unforgettable day. As we made our way back to the port, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the experience and the memories made at Karibana Golf Club. It’s a destination that truly exceeded my expectations and one I can’t recommend enough.
