The Rock of Cashel features the most extraordinary collection of medieval buildings in Ireland. Among its historical gems, you’ll discover a round tower, a grand high cross, a Romanesque chapel, a magnificent Gothic cathedral, an ancient abbey, the notable Hall of the Vicars Choral, and a fifteenth-century Tower House.
Originally the royal seat of the Munster kings, legend has it that St. Patrick himself came here to convert King Aenghus to Christianity. In 978, Brian Boru was crowned High King at Cashel, making it his capital.

You’ll have the chance to visit the impressive Cormac’s Chapel - one of the finest examples of 12th-century Romanesque architecture in Ireland, featuring the only surviving Romanesque frescoes in the country.

• Cahir Castle - Explore one of the largest and best-preserved castles in Ireland, which has maintained its impressive keep, tower, and much of its original 14th-century defensive structure.
  Stroll along the River Suir and enjoy the Movie Garden along the Castle’s walls, with the Castle serving as a location for many famous films including The Last Duel, The Tudors, Excalibur, and others.
• Swiss Cottage - We’ll visit the charming “fantasy” thatched cottage used by Lord and Lady Cahir for entertaining guests.
  Inside, you’ll find beautifully decorated rooms with the finest furnishings, specially made for the cottage, hand-painted murals, and the first and most expensive wallpaper in the world at the time.
