This includes the main 17th-century villa, an observatory, and a farmhouse with 75 acres (30.4 ha) of farmland. Since October 2016, the primary building, the Papal Palace, has functioned as a museum. For centuries, it served as a summer residence and retreat for the pope, the head of the Catholic Church, and it enjoys extraterritorial status as one of the Holy See’s properties. The palace offers a view of Lake Albano.
