- Castel Gandolfo - Castel Gandolfo’s origins trace back to the magnificent Roman villa of Albanum Domitian, constructed by Emperor Domitian between 81 and 96 AD. The town was largely forgotten until the 1200s when the Genoese Gandolfo family erected a castle atop the hill overlooking the lake. Although the papal influence was established in the mid-16th century, the Papal Residence was redesigned by Carlo Maderno for Pope Urban VIII in the 17th century. Later, Pius XI expanded it by adding the Papal Palace and the adjacent Villa Barberini. In 1870, the small square in front of the Residence was renamed Liberty Square during the Italian unification movement. The Papal Palace remained unoccupied from 1870 until 1929, when Mussolini, through the Lateran Treaty, acknowledged the Holy See as its rightful owner.
- Grottaferrata - Once surrounded by vineyards, Grottaferrata has evolved into one of the most sophisticated and sought-after residential and holiday destinations in the Castelli Romani region. The town is especially noted for the Abbazia di San Nilo (Abbey of Saint Nilus), around which the residential area has grown over the centuries. Today, the Abbey remains a prominent landmark, housing Basilian monks who practice the Byzantine rite of the Church of Constantinople. Founded 50 years before the Great Schism, the monastery stayed in communion with the Church of Rome while maintaining its Byzantine traditions. Thus, Catholics can participate in the Byzantine rite and receive sacraments at the Abbey of Saint Nilus. Grottaferrata is also famous for its historic National Fair, held annually in early spring since the 11th century, attracting numerous pilgrims and merchants to the Monastery.
- Frascati - Frascati is renowned for its villas, constructed by the papal nobility in the 16th century as accommodations for official delegations and summer retreats. These stunning villas, designed by the most esteemed architects and artists of the 16th and 17th centuries, are set amidst cultivated lands, forests, and picturesque gardens. Notable villas include Villa Aldobrandini, Villa Falconieri, Villa Torlonia, Villa Mercede, Villa Grazioli, and Villa Mondragone.
