• Castellammare del Golfo - The journey begins in Castellammare del Golfo, a quaint and picturesque town nestled on the slopes of Monte Inici. This town lends its name to the gulf it overlooks, bordered by Capo Rama to the east and Capo San Vito to the west. A 30-minute stop at Bar La Sorgente allows for a delightful breakfast featuring traditional Sicilian pastries such as sfinci, cannoli, and cassatelle. Castellammare del Golfo is celebrated as one of Sicily’s premier seaside destinations and ranks among Italy’s most beautiful coastal villages. The area boasts attractions like the Scopello stacks, the Scopello tuna fishery, Guidaloca Bay, the Segestane thermal baths, and the eastern section of the Zingaro Nature Reserve.
• Tempio di Segesta - A 20-minute drive on the highway leads to the Archaeological Park of Segesta, an ancient city with a rich 2,800-year history, founded by the Elymians from ancient Troy. Highlights include the Ancient Theater, carved into the rock atop Monte Barbaro, and the majestic Doric Temple of Segesta, perched on a cliff over 100 meters deep. The ancient city is located on Monte Barbaro in Calatafimi Segesta, near Alcamo and Castellammare del Golfo. Excavations have uncovered a Hellenistic-Roman town and a medieval village. This archaeological site is one of Sicily’s best-preserved, despite numerous transformations, and offers breathtaking views and cultural significance, making it a top cultural and landscape tourism destination in Trapani province.
• Erice - After approximately two hours, the journey continues from Segesta to Erice, an ancient stronghold of Elymian origin situated 750 meters above sea level. Throughout history, conquerors of Sicily, including the Romans, Arabs, Normans, and Spaniards, sought to control Erice and Enna. In Erice, visitors can enjoy fresh air, stunning views of Trapani and the Egadi Islands, and sample renowned Genoese and almond paste biscuits, crafted by cloistered nuns from local convents. Dining options include local restaurants and trattorias offering traditional Trapani cuisine, or fry shops serving Arancina or Rianata (local pizza).
• Castello di Venere - The Castle of Venus, a 12th-century Norman castle, stands on an isolated cliff at the southeastern summit of Mount Erice in Trapani province. It was built on the ruins of an Elymian-Phoenician-Roman temple, with the Balio castle towers nearby.
• Cantine Florio - Around 3:30 pm, the tour departs from the enchanting Erice, transitioning from the fresh mountain air to the salty scent of the sea. The journey leads to the historic Cantina Florio di Marsala, established in 1833. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich tradition of Marsala wine through a guided tour of one of Sicily’s oldest cellars. The experience includes tasting authentic Marsala, a wine that has shaped Sicilian enology, thanks to the Florio family. The tour concludes with a tasting of three Marsala Florio wines paired with three food selections, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Founded in 1833 by entrepreneur Vincenzo Florio, the winery offers the opportunity to purchase Marsala. At 6:30 pm, guests will return to their hotel.
