Rio de Janeiro has been honored as the first World Capital of Architecture by UNESCO. The city boasts structures from the colonial era, art-deco style buildings, and modernist architecture.
The walking tour begins at Carioca’s Square in the Downtown area, where visitors can admire a collection of 17th-century structures: the Church and the Convent of St. Anthony. The tour then continues to Rio Branco Avenue, the first avenue established in the city. Next, the tour proceeds to Cinelandia Square to appreciate its Art Deco buildings before transitioning to modernist architecture. The tour concludes at the Museum of Modern Art.
