• Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara - This temple features a massive pagoda, originally 280 feet tall, partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1545. Wat Chedi Luang once housed the revered Emerald Buddha, now enshrined in Bangkok’s Wat Phra Kaew. One of its most striking architectural features is the magnificent Naga staircase that adorns the chapel’s entrance.

• Wat Phra That Doi Suthep - This is a grand temple complex offering visual delights at every turn. It is popular with tour buses, but waiting for the tour to move on allows for a more personal experience. Allow plenty of time to explore, and it will be rewarding.

• Wat Pha Lat - This temple is the ancient predecessor (lower on the mountain) to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. While it may be less grand than its younger counterpart, it is rich in history, reverence, and tranquility. Offering stunning views of Chiang Mai, it is built along a stream with a series of waterfalls, making it an excellent spot for meditation or reflection.

Constructed when the city was founded by King Mangrai in 1296, this gate, along with others like Chang Puak, Chiang Mai, and Pratu Suan Dok, once served to protect the old city. Located on the eastern side, Tha Phae Gate is made of red brick and stands as a timeless symbol of Chiang Mai’s rich heritage.
