Unforgettable Day with Gentle Giants and Thai Delights - We visited the Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary with our family, my sons and their girlfriends. We got picked up from our hotel along with a few fellow adventurers. The others got dropped off at Camp 4… and we kept going, only our family, like we were VIPs headed to Camp 5. Our guide at Camp 5 was a total legend, friendly, funny, and full of elephant facts and surprise Thai vocabulary quizzes. We learned so much, including a few useful Thai phrases and some Thai words that would be better not to use in a public setting. The elephants? Majestic, gentle, and clearly living their best life. We got to feed them watermelon and later made some nutritious elephant “energy balls” with bananas, rice, and mystery ingredients that felt like a cross between a smoothie and a mud pie. The best part? There was a photographer ninja-ing around the whole time, capturing all the laughs, trunk hugs, and slightly-too-close elephant selfies. They gave us a Dropbox link afterward with all the photos—so no worries if your own phone was too busy being smeared with banana goo. After our elephant bonding session, we got to dive into a Thai cooking experience. Let me tell you—if you think feeding elephants is fun, try cooking Thai food with people who make it feel like a party. We learned and we laughed. It was delicious and slightly chaotic in the best way. The whole experience was set in a beautiful, lush environment, with the kindest Thai people you’ll ever meet. 10/10 would recommend.
