The walk commences at Stavros beach. Leaving the sea behind, the path gently winds through olive groves, a centuries-old landscape that continues to shape the rhythm of this region.
Gradually, the trail leads deeper into the hills, following the ancient paths of monks. Along the way, caves once used by hermits are encountered — quiet retreats carved into the rock.
Deep below, Katholiko Monastery is reached, one of the oldest on Crete, established in the 11th century. Today it stands abandoned — a place of silence, where arches and stone walls still narrate their story.
Near the monastery, there is an opportunity for a swim in a secluded bay. From here, the journey continues through the untouched landscape, following the gorge back to Stavros — where the walk concludes by the sea, with time to relax and unwind.
