The journey begins at the old village and concludes at the new one, forming a circular route that passes by two fortresses. This is an excellent hike, suitable only for those in excellent physical condition.
The hike commences by heading first to the old village, located 1.5 km north of the coast. The route crosses a stone bridge and follows the path to the church of Agia Paraskevi. The trail ascends steadily, initially on a path and later directly upwards until reaching the summit. The ascent takes approximately 3.5 to 4 hours. Upon reaching the top, hikers will traverse along the ridge to the highest point, Papoura. The view is breathtaking, offering sights of the Samaria Gorge, Klados, numerous peaks of the White Mountains, and the Libyan Sea. The descent follows a different route, passing through the two castles located there, providing stunning views throughout. Participants must be in excellent physical condition and healthy for this remarkable hike. Hiking sticks are recommended, along with water, a small snack, sunscreen, and a hat. Upon returning to Agia Roumeli, hikers can refresh themselves in the crystal-clear waters of the sea.
