Lukla - Begin the day with an exhilarating 45-minute flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. This flight offers a glimpse of the journey ahead. Here, the trek begins, and the porters join the team.
Phakding - The trek starts with a descent to Phakding village. Experience the Himalayan lifestyle as the path follows the Dudhkoshi River, passing through mountain villages like Chheplung, Thado Koshi, and Nachipang.
Tonight, stay at the first guesthouse of the trek.
Strenuous Hike to Namche Bazaar | 3,440 m (11,286 ft)
Namche Bazaar - Prepare for a long day starting early from Phakding, alternating sides of the Dudhkoshi River. Cross several high steel cable suspension bridges and encounter yaks, the mountain’s delivery service. Always give them the right of way.
Today’s trek is mostly moderate, with gentle inclines and declines through pine and rhododendron forests and villages like Thulo Gumela, TokTok, and Benkar. Enter Sagarmatha National Park at Jorsalle, home to endangered species like the red panda and snow leopard.
The next landmark is the Hillary Bridge, named after Edmund Hillary. From here, a steep ascent to Namche Bazaar (11,286 ft./3,440 m.) takes about 2 to 3 hours. Tonight, stay in the largest town in the Everest region.
Acclimatization in Namche Bazaar: hike to Syangboche Airstrip (3,748 m) and Everest View Hotel (3,962 m)
Everest View Point - Spend the day relaxing and acclimatizing, even if it feels unnecessary. After breakfast, hike to the Everest View Hotel for tea via the Syangboche airstrip, enjoying a 360-degree view of the Himalayas. Capture the majestic views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Thamserku, Taboche, Khumbila, and more.
Later, return to Namche Bazaar and immerse in the local culture. Visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and Sagarmatha National Park Museum to learn about the history of the local people, trekking, and mountaineering.
Namche Bazaar is the last stop to stock up on supplies for the trek. Ensure to charge phones, power banks, and devices as charging incurs a fee from here onwards. The last ATM is available for cash withdrawal.
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche Monastery | 3860 m (12665 ft)
Tyangboche - After a day and a half of rest in Namche, continue the journey. The trail begins with a steep climb, followed by a moderate trek. The initial views are breathtaking. As the path leads to Phungithanga through Sanasa, observe Sherpa communities in their daily routines.
After Phungithanga, the trail becomes a challenging ascent through dense rhododendron forests. After 2.5 hours of climbing, reach the beautiful Tengboche monastery.
Tenzing Norgay, the first person to summit Everest, was born nearby and served as a monk in the Tengboche monastery. The monastery and its surroundings are worth exploring.
Trek from Tengboche Monastery to Dingboche | 4,410 m (14,469 ft)
Dingboche - Witness a stunning sunrise from Tengboche monastery, aiming to wake up early. After breakfast, descend through a lovely rhododendron forest to Deboche (3,320 m).
The trail crosses Imja Khol and ascends to Pangboche village (3,930 m). Ama Dablam, a notable summit, is visible from Pangboche. The oldest monastery in the region is here, housing a unique relic believed to be the scalp and hand of a Yeti.
Cross another bridge and trek through settlements like Shomare (4,010 m) and Orsho (4,190 m). Ascend along Imja Khola to reach Dingboche village.
Acclimatization in Dingboche; hike to Nagarjuna Hill | 14469 ft. (4410 m.)
Dingboche - Having descended to over 4,400 meters/14,400 ft., it’s an ideal time to rest and acclimatize. Start the day leisurely and hike to Nagarjuna Hill to acclimatize and enjoy the surreal mountain landscape. Later, explore Dingboche village and relax.
Dingboche to Lobuche | 4,940 m (16207 ft)
Lobuche - After a rest day and a short hike, you’re ready to push further. Head up the main path in the wide valley under the Cholatse and Tawache peaks. The terrain becomes icy, with few settlements.
Ascend a steep uphill route to reach Dusa (4,503 m). Continue to Dughla (4,620 m) in about two hours. At the foot of the Khumbu Glacier, the highest glacier in the world, the steep climb begins along the glacial path to the top of the Dughla Pass (4,830 m).
Continue on the steep path, paying respects to shrines honoring fallen mountaineers like Rob Hall and Scott Fischer, to reach Lobuche village. The landscape changes drastically here. Lobuche is a small settlement with a few tea houses and lodges.
Lobuche to Gorakshep to Everest Base Camp | 5,364 m.(17,598 ft) and back to Gorak Shep | 5164 m (16942 ft.)
Gorakshep - Today is the day. The dream of seeing Mount Everest’s base camp is about to come true. Leaving Lobuche, start a rocky ascent along the Khumbu glacier, passing the International Pyramid Laboratory Observatory. Continue to Gorakshep, a small settlement on relatively flat terrain.
Everest Base Camp - Continue alongside the glacier for two more hours on a rocky, downhill, and uphill trail to reach Everest base camp. Celebrate the moment. Admire Mount Everest’s beauty, listen to climbers’ stories, take pictures, and prepare to return to Gorak Shep for the night.
Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar and back to Pheriche | 4,371 m (14340 ft)
Kala Patthar - Wake up early and hike to Kala Patthar to witness a heavenly sunrise over Mt. Everest. The hike is steep and rocky.
Reflect on the fact that, except for scientists in the International Space Station and a few thousand mountaineers on expeditions, all of humanity is below you.
After enjoying the breathtaking mountain views from Kala Patthar, descend to Gorak Shep and retrace the path back to Lobuche. The trail crosses Dughla pass and descends to Pheriche.
Pheriche to Namche Bazaar | 3440 m (11286 ft.)
Namche Bazaar - After a hearty breakfast, begin trekking toward Namche Bazaar. Although it’s a long walk, it’s relatively easy as the elevation decreases.
The trail follows the same path back to Pangboche (3,930 m) and crosses multiple suspension bridges. Walk past lush forests and beautiful villages before reaching Namche Bazaar. It’s a great opportunity to visit Himalayan shops and buy souvenirs.
Namche Bazaar to Lukla 2846 m (9337 ft)
Lukla - From Namche Bazaar, descend along a steep trail through lush forests. Trek through remote villages, crossing multiple bridges and streams. Return to Monjo and retrace the trail to Lukla via Phakding village.
Flyback to Kathmandu | 1350 m (4,429 ft.)
Kathmandu - Conclude the adventure with a thrilling flight back from Lukla. Enjoy the final views of the Himalayas as the plane descends to Kathmandu airport. The rest of the day is free for personal activities and shopping.
