- Giant Panda Breeding Research Base (Xiongmao Jidi) - The Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base houses over 80 of China’s beloved pandas. While most are the well-known black and white pandas, the Base also hosts several smaller, lesser-known red pandas.
Visitors can observe the pandas eating and playing in a habitat that closely resembles their natural environment. Additionally, there is an opportunity to learn about the efforts of scientists and ecologists to protect the remaining wild pandas and increase the captive population. Notably, over 100 pandas have been born at the Base since 1987.
The Base gained increased significance after the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, with eight pandas relocated here from the severely damaged Wolong reserve. Your visit contributes both moral and financial support to the ongoing conservation efforts.
