Fun tour - Really good tour. Went to a local wet market, tour of the local area and then on to play mahjong. Our guide, Lance was amazing. Easy to talk with and helped to play mahjong. We shared some fruit and nuts that he purchased for us at the market and some green tea. Would highly recommend the tour as a lovey way to see how the locals live and their love of games.

An unforgettable moment - We were accompanied by Jerry .. an amazing guide!!! Who speaks very good English and is adorable 🥰 He is full of advice and listening to us. The walk in the local market is to be done, places we would not have found alone.. and the introduction to the very nice Mahjong, with locals who help you to play... A superb activity to do!!!

Learn mahjong to have a true Sichuan experience! - We had a wonderful experience with our guide checking out a local market and then learning to play mahjong. The guide was friendly and personable and was eager to show us his neighbourhood and patient with his teaching. It was also great to be in a less touristed area and see a different side of Chengdu.

I recommend this tour to... - I recommend this tour to anyone. Lance showed me around the local market, provided very tasty tea and taught me all I needed to know about Mahjong. I was solo so there was only the two of us and normally you need 4 people to play Mahjong, but the owners of the establishment (that also show you how to cook during Chilli Cool cooking class) joined us and we played a couple of rounds together. I would gladly revisit this experience and everyone visiting Chengdu and willing to play some Mahjong should as well. :)

Great afternoon with a chill vibe - We had a very good time with our guide Lance. We met at the metro station and then walked through a market before arriving to Chilli Cool China's facilities. Lance explained the mahjong rules (we didn't know anything before this class) and we did some trial runs before fully playing. The afternoon went by very smoothly playing mahjong, drinking tea, eating the peanuts and fruits bought at the market and chatting. We very much enjoyed this moment which indeed felt like spending an afternoon with a friend, at the chill Chengdu's pace!

Fun learning Mahjong with tea and snacks - I found this tour on Viator but wasn’t able to book it same day so I emailed the contact info on the Chilli Cool website and Jerry contacted me within an hour at 7 AM! Lance took me and my family to a local market where we saw lots of fresh meat and produce being sold and then to a spice market where he explained the types of spices and some of their culinary and medicinal purposes. We picked up some delicious garlic peanuts and local fruit and then headed to the Chilli Cool office where he made some tea for us to have with our snacks from the market. We then learned to play Mahjong on the really cool automatic self shuffling table and played several rounds until we got the hang of it. Even my hard to please 16 and 18 yo sons had a good time and are interested in trying to beat mom and dad when we get back to the States. Overall a great way to appreciate how the people in Chengdu enjoy a more slow paced life playing Mahjong and drinking tea. Lance was such a great guide and mahjong teacher - patient and kind especially at the end when we had some issues with our payment working on WeChat which took us 15 min to iron out with our bank and escorted us to and from the metro station which was a short walk from the beginning and end of the tour. Highly recommend this tour for something a little different from the traditional ones being offered elsewhere especially for families that might have older kids that would enjoy learning something new.
