- St Mary’s Church - The fort is a notable example of military architectural style. Within the fort, guests will visit key landmarks such as St. Mary’s Church and Wellesley House. Additionally, the tour includes a stop at the Government Museum and Art Gallery, one of India’s most esteemed museums, featuring a collection of ancient bronze artifacts and other significant historical items.
- Kapaleeshwarar Temple - The tour also includes a visit to the Kapaleeshwar Temple, constructed by the Pallava dynasty in the 7th century CE and dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is a fine example of Dravidian architecture, with a 120-foot colorful gopuram (gateway tower) adorned with stucco figures and pillared mandapas (pavilions). The current temple is believed to have been reconstructed by the Vijayanagar Kingdom in the 16th century using remnants of the original, which was destroyed by the Portuguese in 1566. The original site is now occupied by the San Thome Church. According to legend, Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva, worshipped Shiva here in the form of a peacock. In Tamil, a peacock is called ‘mayil,’ which led to the name Mylapore (town of peacocks), where the temple is now located.
