An unforgettable experience on this walking food tour! - An unforgettable experience on this walking food tour! I have to say, it was truly made special thanks to Nethaji. He’s such a kind, thoughtful, and intelligent young man who went out of his way to ensure I stayed safe, especially navigating the busy traffic. As a solo traveler, I initially felt a bit intimidated, but Nethaji’s care and guidance quickly put me at ease.
One of the best parts is that the tour is curated specifically for you, making the whole experience feel personalized and unique. Just be sure to come hungry so you have room to try everything, and it helps to have an idea of some of the foods you’d like to sample.
There is no hotel pickup, but getting there by Uber was straightforward. My only challenge, and not sure how this could be improved, was being dropped off in a bustling market area. For someone unfamiliar with the local culture and customs, it was quite overwhelming. I asked my Uber driver to wait with me until Nethaji arrived, since I was 20 minutes early.
Once Nethaji arrived and showed me the ropes, I felt completely safe and comfortable. The tour was not just about great food, but also about sharing a meal and enjoying the company of a knowledgeable and welcoming guide. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment!
Honestly, I’m surprised there aren’t more tours like this, especially since the food here is absolutely incredible. This kind of experience is truly a gem.
Thank you, Nethaji!

Fun & Informative Food Tour! - Thank you Miracle for a great food tour! Lots of stops, excellent snacks and drinks, and great Chennai info. Miracle was a caring and communicative guide who tailored the evening to my tastes and even helped me arrange my transportation back to the hotel afterwards.

A must-do in Chennai, especially if you don't want to brave the busy markets on your own! - Really great experience, good value for money and we would recommend to anyone visiting Chennai!
Tharun was super friendly and helpful. He catered to everyone on the tour really well, such as making sure the foods were to our preference by asking for extra spice or low spice. We got to try a variety of sweet and savoury snacks as well as masala chai and sugar cane juice. Thank you for a great tour :)

Shop Like a Local - Amazing tour with Hareesh. Felt like a local with his help including the jammed city streets. Help us shop for a wide range of items including sandals, baby gifts, and silks. These are places that would be a bit intimidating to go on your own.

A brilliant night! Would recommend. - My partner and I took the food tour with Jamie in the Sowcarpet, Chennai. We recommend taking an afternoon tour as the area really wakes up in the afternoon/evening.
Jamie was very knowledgeable about the food and about India in general. We spent a lot of the time asking questions and learning about India, inbetween mouthfuls of good food. Jamie built our experience around what we liked, making sure to get the amount of food and spice levels right.
Truly a relaxed, informative and delicious evening.
I should also note, that my partner and I booked the tour the night before which didn't give the team enough time to organise it. They got in contact the next day to explain and offered that we join one of the evening tours the next day instead. Thanks for being such a polite and thoughtful company.

Get way to see more of Chennai - The tour through the area was terrific! We did not feel comfortable with several of the sites in terms of use of local water and overall cleanliness. The guide was struggling because there was a national celebration and several of the planned sites were closed. We conveyed this to the guide but it was a challenging day.

Great experience of Georgetown, ok tour. - It was fascinating to experience the hustle and bustle of the Georgetown market area! Such a crush of people, cars, tuk tuks, bikes, scooters, dogs, even horse drawn carts. The food part of the tour was ok, tasty for sure, but we were surprised to still be hungry- there just weren’t very many stops and the last stop was the same as the first. The sweets shop was a tour highlight. Our guide was organized, enthusiastic, and warm but the tour wasn’t super informative because we spent most of the time navigating the streets and not talking with him. We are glad we went.

Complete fail on many levels - I booked this for a 5pm start and didn't receive a confirmation and so I called the office to confirm. Thankfully I did as they asked if I could reschedule to the following day which I was able to do. I got a confirmation and the number of the guide.
On the day of the tour, I found it REALLY difficult to find the location with my uber driver. The google link takes you to a different location that is marked as the street location. This was very confusing and the uber driver passed me on to a tuk tuk driver as the streets are very narrow. This was a bit scary as I was on my own.
Eventually I managed to speak to the guide who spoke to the tuk tuk driver and I was deposited outside a police box.
The guide I was allocated passed me on to a different guide (without letting me know) and this new guide called to ask where I was because I was not at the meeting point. After a little back and forth the newly appointed guide met me and we started the tour.
The food we ate was not as outlined in the itinerary - ie it was not south indian food.
I was told that the food in this area is north indian and this is why they come here because most tourists want to eat north indian food snacks. This was really disappointing and after I asked to have chennai based food I was taken to a few places but again did not eat any of the things outlined in the itinerary. The new guide was OK but he was not a storyteller. He was super helpful with my questions but not forthcoming as a tour leader. There was no storytelling unless prompted.
The tour also only lasted about 1 hour and 15 mins vs the 2 hours advertised.
I am really disappointed that I didnt get a chance to eat the south indian foods listed in the description as I am only in Chennai for a couple of days.
I think this tour should start in a better known location like a metro station so it is easier to find the guide to start with. My tour finished at HIgh Court metro station for which I was grateful as it was a busy area and I could easily get back to my hotel.
I am pretty comfortable in India on my own but if you are not then do not book this tour simply because of the starting location and the confusion around the booking.
Sadly I have not been able to find an alternative food walk in Chennai to suggest that covers south indian food.
I am waiting for the tour operator to provide a refund and to address my complaint above about the lack of organisation, change of guide and the fact that the itinerary was not as stated.

Very dissapointed - Highly trained guide says viator... this is not true. Friendly guide with not a clue of doing the tour. We went to 4 places , eat few things here and there. Very dissapointed. We felt robbed tbh.
I raised a complaint to viator... still didn't recieve a reply, not even acknowledge the complaint.
