Great tour of some African American neighborhoods with Steve - Steve took us on a tour of parts of Chicago that might have been difficult to see otherwise. Starting at downtown Chicago he took us through Bronzeville, describing the great migration north of African Americans, and showed us sites such as Ida B Wells' home, Nat King Cole's home, and the birthplace of Gospel music, that make this neighborhood so significant. Then on to the Kenwood neighborhood with the homes of Barack Obama, Louis Farrakhan and Muhammed Ali, and then in Hyde Park the childhood home of Emmet Till. We were looking to understand some of the African American history of the city of Chicago, and we got that with Steve.

Exceptional and authentic tour! - We absolutely loved this experience! Mr Steve was an amazing guide, witty, authentic, and full of insight. Deeply connected to the South Side, where he grew up, he brought a perspective that captured both its rich past and its vibrant present offering an authentic glimpse into a part of Chicago that’s often misunderstood. His mix of humor, sharp sarcasm, storytelling, and pride in the city made the tour both eye-opening and fun. We left with a deeper understanding of Chicago and big smiles. Highly recommended!

Steve was very... - Steve was very knowledgeable and seemed to love his city. I learned so much Chicago history and enjoyed Steve’s commentary. The tour can get a long, he tends to go over the four hours mentioned. Make sure you have any other plans until late in the evening.

Suggestions - Steve was nice and very knowledgeable. But don't think he needs to stay focused on low income housing the information was good but once it's talked about you let it go don't stay on it every time you see the housing. When Steve pick us up I didn't even know who he was he had no kinda uniform on or name tag on, so I was not sure until I saw the other people with him and the van that said The tour which I feel should be a bigger and easier van to get in and out of since we're stopping and getting in and out of the van even for small groups. I also feel we should pull over out of traffic to see things so other cars can drive on and are not blowing their horn .The soul food restaurant Pearls was good, nice family owned place. I did enjoy all the stops and the museum there was two place on the list we didn't stop at so just make sure when advertising the tour you take people where you say they're going to go like Jennifer Hudson's home or West's home. The Obama table at the restaurant should be roped off just the suggestion by that restaurant so no one can sit there and you can get the proper picture .The price of the tour could have been a little cheaper. So I say all these things as suggestions because the tour was not bad but it was ok and seeing Chicago from a different point was a learning experience.

Deceived/Disappointing - Steve is a very passionate man. However, he needs to tone it down a bit. His passion and animation can be perceived as aggressive. The advertisement doesn't match the tour at all. More time should be spent at the african american museum, and less time looking at and talking about "public housing communities." I do not recommend this tour.

Skip this tour - This tour could be really good. However, Steve the tour guide rambled and told half stories. He often stopped without fully pulling over to turn around to tell stories. He didn’t point out or explain many of the sights that we passed. He also misnamed people he was telling stories about. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this tour.
