- Chichen Itza - The day begins with a pick-up in Valladolid followed by a 45-minute drive to the Maya-Toltec site of Chichen Itza. By starting early, the group will arrive at the archaeological site before the crowds and avoid the midday heat.
A professional certified guide will provide an insightful tour of this New World Wonder (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes), featuring the largest ball court in Mesoamerica, the Temple of the Warriors, the Observatory, the Nunnery Palace, and the Kukulkan Temple. The Mayans are renowned for their astronomical expertise. Instead of telescopes, the windows in the Caracol are aligned with the cardinal and subcardinal directions, believed to track the movements of Venus, the Pleiades, the sun, the moon, and other celestial events.
After the guided tour, there will be ample free time to explore the site and capture some memorable photos.
- Cenote San Lorenzo Oxman - Cenote
The next stop offers a refreshing swim in a secluded open cenote, providing a perfect way to cool off. For those interested, there’s an option to use the swing rope to jump in or simply relax.
Lunch is included following the cenote visit.
After lunch, a 30-minute drive leads to Ek Balam.
- Zona Arqueológica de Ek Balam - Ek Balam, meaning ‘Black Jaguar,’ offers a distinct and equally stunning experience compared to Chichen Itza.
It is one of Yucatan’s most significant archaeological sites and remains climbable. Recently, an 80% intact stucco façade of the mausoleum of Ukit Kan Le’k Tok, the most prominent Maya ruler of Ek Balam, was discovered, along with over 7,000 offerings dating back to the 8th century. Truly impressive! A professional, certified guide will share its fascinating history.
After exploring the site, there is a 30-minute drive back to Valladolid, with an estimated return time of 5:30 pm.
