• Cajón del Maipo - Cajón del Maipo is a picturesque canyon situated in the southeastern Andean region of the Santiago Metropolitan Area. It includes the upper Maipo River basin, where the river has carved a narrow valley. The area is enriched by several tributary rivers such as El Volcán River, Yeso River, and Colorado River, along with smaller streams like San Gabriel, Manzanito, Coyanco, El Sauce, El Manzano, and San José. The main town is San José de Maipo, the capital of the commune that covers the entire Andean sector of the Metropolitan Region.
• Embalse El Yeso - Known as the “El Yeso Reservoir,” this impressive body of water is located over 2,000 meters above sea level. It boasts a capacity of 250,000,000 cubic meters and a depth of 55 meters. Its emerald green waters are perfect for various water sports such as windsurfing and sport fishing, all set against the backdrop of towering mountains. This is a wonderful spot for a picnic.
• Villa La Obra, San José De Maipo - Upon entering the G-25 route, the first town encountered is La Obra. This area began in 1802 due to the construction activities of the San Carlos canal, which originates from the Maipo River.
• El Canelo - The next destination is the town of El Canelo, named after the sacred tree of the Mapuches, which also grows in the moist streams of the area. From here, visitors can access Purgatory Hill, standing at 2,466 meters, and enjoy local wines and spirits.
• Avenida el Manzano - El Manzano is the fourth town in Cajón del Maipo. It offers visitors areas that invite exploration among boldos, thorns, and quillayes, the native flora of the region.
• Las Vertientes - The second town on the itinerary, Las Vertientes, dates back to 1941, originating from the division of an old farm. Visitors can find typical products like almonds, honey, nuts, and quartz crystals along the roadside.
• San Alfonso - This town’s charm encourages visitors to peacefully enjoy its stunning natural surroundings, which blend with the quaintness of the local architecture. Visitors can also savor wines and spirits from the area.
• San Gabriel - San Gabriel began as a small village rooted in livestock activities and quarry and mining operations. Here, visitors can see the “Cypress of the Cordillera” on the rocky hillsides, one of the few conifers in the country. “Los rodados de San Gabriel” is a major attraction.
• El Melocotón - This locality emerged from the need for natural pastures to feed animals descending from the mountains. It offers a beautiful landscape that invites exploration and a deeper connection with nature.
• Casa Chocolate Tienda Boutique - Casa Chocolate is one of the most delightful and photographed locations in Cajón del Maipo.
