Anakena Beach - This stunning beach was once the capital of an ancient society. Here, visitors can find a monument with the island’s best-preserved moais, recently excavated after being buried in the sand for centuries. For those interested in swimming or relaxing on the beach, it’s recommended to return independently, as the tour emphasizes the area’s archaeological and historical significance.

Ahu Te Pito Kura - Home to the tallest moai ever successfully transported to its ahu, standing at an impressive 9.9 meters. Like other statues, it was toppled in ancient times and remains unrestored. The area also features a round magnetic rock believed by some to possess magical properties.

Puna Pau - A small volcano where red scoria stone was quarried for the moai statue topknots, known as pukao. All moai statue pukaos originate from this location.

Ahu Akivi - The only monument with moais facing the sea. These statues are said to represent the first seven settlers who arrived on Easter Island a thousand years ago.

Ahu Tahai - The tribesmen here were notably ambitious and industrious, erecting several statues on three different ahu platforms. A ramp was constructed to access the ocean from this area.

Rano Kau - The crater of Rano Kau volcano offers one of the island’s most breathtaking views. Its crater lake was a crucial source of drinking water in ancient times.

Orongo - A ceremonial stone village dedicated to the birdman competition, located on the ridge of Rano Kau volcano. From Orongo, there is a spectacular view of the volcano’s crater.

Megaliths: South and East

Ahu Vinapu - Ahu Tahira, known for its perfectly fitted rock wall, is located here. Its engineering prowess leads many to speculate about contact with the Inca Empire.

Ahu Vinapu - Hanga Poukura: Near Vinapu lies Hanga Poukura, a beautiful coastal area with intriguing lava rock formations. Several statues are mysteriously buried in a line, with only their backs visible. The ahu is exceptionally well-crafted with precisely cut blocks. Hanga Poukura also features a remarkable natural phenomenon—a blowhole. When ocean conditions are right, water shoots into the air as waves crash in.

Ahu Vaihu - This area features a modern replica of an ancient village. Visitors can observe ancient plantation techniques and explore replicas of the historic “boat houses” used centuries ago.

Ahu Akahanga - Experience history among the ruins of one of Rapa Nui’s largest ancient villages. Discover boat-shaped house foundations, earth ovens, and a vast ceremonial platform with toppled moai statues. An unrestored ahu nearby holds 13 statues of various sizes, serving as a powerful reminder of the island’s past. Legend has it that this sacred site is the burial place of the island’s first king, Hotu Matu’a.

Rano Raraku - This volcano was transformed into a mass production site for gigantic megaliths. Nearly all statues were carved here, and the hundreds left behind remain unmoved since the workers ceased their efforts.

Ahu Tongariki - The largest monument on Easter Island, Ahu Tongariki boasts 15 massive moai standing proudly against the ocean. Once toppled by an earthquake and swept inland by a tsunami, these giants have been restored to their original splendor, symbolizing Rapa Nui’s resilience, history, and spiritual heritage.
