Rano Kau - Positioned on the island’s southwest side, this volcano’s crater is one of Rapa Nui’s most stunning natural landscapes. Spanning 1.5 km, it is the largest reserve of Rapa Nui’s endemic flora, and its lake was a vital source of drinking water in ancient times.

Ahu Vinapu - This notable archaeological site is distinguished by the exquisite craftsmanship of Rapa Nui’s ancient builders. Some theories suggest a possible connection between this platform’s construction and the Inca architectural style.

Ahu Tahai - This ceremonial complex was restored in 1974 by American archaeologist Dr. William Mulloy. Tahai includes three main ahu from north to south: Ko Te Riku (with restored eyes), Tahai, and Vai Ure. Its proximity to town makes it a popular spot for sunset photography.

Ahu Akahanga - Situated on the island’s southeast coast, this site is considered emblematic. It offers insight into how the village was organized around the ceremonial center or ahu. Observing the fallen giants is a remarkable experience.

Ahu Tongariki - Located opposite Rano Raraku, this is the largest reconstructed platform on the island. Ahu Tongariki is the most impressive moai platform, featuring fifteen standing statues facing the island with their backs to the Pacific Ocean.

Rano Raraku - This is the island’s only volcanic cone tuff quarry, which enabled the large-scale construction of the moai. Rano Raraku contains the quarry where the moai were crafted and from where they were transported to the island’s ahu (ceremonial platforms).

Ahu Te Pito Kura - Here lies the largest moai transported from Rano Raraku: Ahu o Paro, measuring 11 meters long and weighing about 90 tons. Nearby is the famous rounded stone, Te Pito ‘o te Henua, traditionally believed to have been brought to the island by ancestors.

Anakena Beach - Known for its warm turquoise waters and coral sand, this is the island’s main beach and was once the ancestral home of the Miru Araki royal family. The ahu Nau Nau is one of the island’s most refined ahu, noted for the elegance of its moai.

Ahu Tongariki - Experience the breathtaking sunrise over the Moai statues of Ahu Tongariki. The sun rises behind the platform during summer (October to March) and from Poike volcano during the rest of the year. Winter offers more chances of clear skies.

Ahu Akivi - One of the few ceremonial platforms not by the sea, its seven moai were restored to their standing positions by archaeologists William Mulloy and Gonzalo Figueroa, along with the Rapa Nui community. These moai are uniquely aligned with astronomical guidance, facing the setting sun.

Puna Pau - This quarry provided the red volcanic stone used for carving the Pu Kao, or the moai’s hair. Here, 23 cylindrical Pu Kao prototypes are found in early carving stages, facilitating transport to the ahu. The site also offers a splendid view of Hanga Roa village.
