- Complejo Arqueológico Chinchero - After a journey of approximately 1 hour, the group will reach the town of Chinchero. This quaint indigenous Andean village is situated high on the windswept plains of Anta at an elevation of 3,765 meters, roughly 30 kilometers from Cusco. The area offers stunning views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, with the Vilcabamba Mountain Range and the snow-capped Salkantay peak gracing the western horizon. Chinchero is traditionally considered the mythical birthplace of the rainbow. Its main tourist attraction is the vibrant Sunday market, which is less tourist-focused than the Pisac market. The town is primarily composed of adobe houses, and locals continue to wear traditional attire. Historically, Chinchero may have been a significant town during the Inca era. The most remarkable remnant from this period is the massive stone wall in the main square, featuring ten trapezoidal niches.
- Moray - After a 30-minute drive, the group will arrive at Moray. Throughout Cusco, the advanced agricultural techniques of the Incas, such as terrace systems and aqueduct irrigation, are evident. In Moray, circular terraces showcase the high level of culture achieved by the Inca civilization. Located 4.5 miles from Maras and 39 miles from Cusco, Moray’s main attraction is its circular agricultural terraces, which reach depths of up to 330 feet. These terraces are constructed with retaining walls and connected by an irrigation system. Moray served as an agricultural laboratory, where the Incas created microclimates to cultivate various crops.
- Maras - After another 30-minute drive, the group will reach the salt mines, or the renowned “salt pools” of Maras, situated in the rural community of Pichingoto. This site is highly recommended for photography enthusiasts due to its breathtaking landscape. It is also ideal for hikers and mountain bikers, as the trail links the salt mines with the towns of Tarabamba and Pichingoto. Notable attractions in this area include the Moray archaeological site, resembling an amphitheater with several circular terraces, and the Tiobamba Sanctuary, a colonial adobe church housing Cusco paintings like The Last Supper.
- Urubamba - After approximately 45 minutes of travel, the group will arrive in the City of Urubamba for a rest and lunch break. A buffet lunch will be served, featuring a variety of national and local dishes, all accompanied by soothing Andean music.
- Ollantaytambo - After a 1-hour journey, the group will reach the town of Ollantaytambo, a charming location that retains the designs of Inca structures at an altitude of 9,160 feet in the Urubamba province. Among its most impressive attractions are the ceremonial temple dedicated to water worship and a fortress that guarded the valley’s entrance against invasions. The temple features a series of terraces that visitors ascend via a steep staircase. The fortress, a stone colossus, was constructed between two mountains to protect the valley. The area also includes the Temple of the Inti (sun god), Incamisana, the Ñustas’ (princesses’) baths, the Cachiccata funerary towers, and a group of steep, stepped terraces on a hillside.
- Pisac - After approximately 45 minutes of travel, the group will arrive at Pisac. The fascinating stone block walls of Pisac exhibit a balanced proportion, from their size to the perfect joints of each stone, forming a captivating architectural complex in the Sacred Valley. The name Pisac originates from Quechua, meaning partridge, a bird similar to a chicken that inhabits the area. According to theories, this complex was somewhat akin to the “Real Estate” of Inca Pachacutec, which is why it includes a variety of facilities such as terraces, a ceremonial room, palaces, walls, and towers, all interconnected without any amalgamation. Intihuatana, known as the most important ceremonial and religious site in Pisac, features buildings made of sedimentary rocks.
