Located about 20 minutes south of Tulum, visitors can experience an amazing variety of bird species, delve into the contemporary Maya culture, and explore the ancient Maya civilization while birdwatching in the village and archaeological site of Muyil.
The tour includes exploring various habitats in the village, featuring diverse vegetation such as the mature semi-deciduous jungle at the Muyil archaeological site and freshwater wetlands. Participants will walk through a flooded jungle on a boardwalk leading to a freshwater lagoon.
Depending on the season, it is possible to spot between 40 to 80 bird species during the tour.
Additionally, there is an option to enhance the tour with a boat trip across two lagoons and a relaxing river float experience.
Please note, if you are the sole participant booking this tour, an alternative day will be offered, or the option to enjoy a private tour will be provided.

Excellent and worthwhile trip! - My wife and I had an excellent time with our guides Lugo and Lut. We got to see more than 50 species of bird in the region, and got to know our very friendly and knowledgeable guide Lugo who had exceptional local bird knowledge as well as our hilarious and charismatic guide Lut who brought laughs and a fun spirit to the trip. We also were treated to an exceptional lunch at a local taqueria, and a trip out to the lagoon. Unfortunately, as the Muyil archaeological site is down for maintenance, we were not able to see the ruins, but between the birding, the lunch, and the great chats, this was more than made up for. Perfect communication, did not ever feel rushed, and lots of accommodation and care for our needs. Would recommend this trip for birders all the way. Thanks Lugo and Lut for making this a five star trip!

Beautiful birds at a relaxed pace - Had an amazing trip with Lugo and Lot! Saw toucans, trogons, new world Orioles, hummingbirds, green jays, cuckoos, and other beautiful birds of the Yucatán. Muyil ruins closed currently but great bird watching nearby.
Perfect timing on the breakfast, then I did the add on trip to the lagoon. Very nice way to see the natural beauty of Mexico!

A once in a lifetime experience - I cannot tell you how thrilled I was to do this tour. I am only on Day 1 of my adventures here and I already know this will be my favorite thing here. We sax over 50 species of birds in 4 hours. Lugo was our guide and he was beyond amazing. I've never met anyone so passionate about his job and it shows he loves what he does. I am happy to have met new friends here. I will be back. Great tour company. Do yourself a favor a book this trip with Lugo!

We had an amazing experience exploring the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve with Mexicokan Tours. Our guides, Nico and Miguel, were absolutely fantastic—knowledgeable, calm, and genuinely passionate about nature and conservation.
The entire tour felt very well organized and unhurried. Nico and Miguel explained the ecosystem, wildlife, and Mayan history in a way that was easy to understand and engaging. We were lucky to see incredible wildlife, enjoy the crystal-clear waters, and truly disconnect from the crowds of Tulum.
What stood out most was how respectful they were toward nature and how safe and comfortable they made everyone feel throughout the journey. This tour felt authentic, peaceful, and meaningful—not commercial or rushed.
If you’re looking for a truly intentional, eco-friendly, and memorable experience in Sian Ka’an, I highly recommend Mexicokan Tours and especially Nico & Miguel. One of the highlights of our Tulum trip!

Fantastic day in Sian Ka’An - Special Thank’s to Jessica for this fantastic day in Sian Ka’An. She is an enthusiastic guide with a lot of humour. We’ve learnt a lot about te laguna and its ecosystem and we’ve seen a lot of animals living in this place. Environment protection is a strong value for Mexican Tour : congrat’s for that !!!!

Incredible Birding Experience! - We had an absolutely incredible tour with Luciano. His passion and knowledge for birding and the natural world was inspiring. We are so glad we did this on the first day in Tulum. We were confidently able to continue to find birds throughout our time in Tulum. It made our vacation so much more special and memorable. Thank you so much Luciano and Mexico Kan Tours!
Also- Sian Ka’an is a must do!

Wonderful! - The tour that Miguel set up for us was wonderful! Our driver was safe and friendly and the car was comfortable. We had a great bird guide, Luca, who met us early morning with coffee and homemade granola bars. He found us so many birds in and around Muyil. He took us for a delicious breakfast at a small local restaurant. Then we went into Sian Kan by boat and floated in the canal, finding birds all along the way. It was the highlight of my trip to Mexico!

We really enjoyed this... - We really enjoyed this tour. Our guides were great hosts and very knowledgeable. Note: the ruins were closed and there was no definitive timeline to reopen when we visited in Jan 2026. This did not diminish our enjoyment of this tour.
