- Sevenhill Cellars - After a quick stop for coffee and treats at the renowned Little Red Grape Bakery, the tour proceeds to St Aloysius Church Sevenhill, Weikert Cottage, and its historic cemetery. The focus is on exploring the property and discussing the significant contributions of the Jesuit, Polish, and European settlers in the Clare Valley region. This is not a wine tour and does not include visits to the cellars, but rather emphasizes the historical foundation of the area.
- Martindale Hall Historic Museum - Traveling from Sevenhill to Mintaro, the expansive view of the Burra Hills and Tothills unfolds as the journey enters vibrant farmland. After passing through Mintaro, the tour arrives at Martindale Hall, a grand historical site with a fascinating history and the setting of the famous film ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’.
- Robertstown - Leaving Mintaro towards the Tothill Range, the route takes dirt roads showcasing unique Mid North geology and landscape to Robertstown. An hour is set aside for lunch at the Robertstown Hotel (‘the Robbie’) before continuing to World’s End Gorge. As South Australia’s newest National Park, this picturesque valley includes the park and Hopkins Creek Conservation Park. Central to the indigenous Ngadjuri culture, it is a stunning and enchanting location to explore. A walk is planned to discuss the area while enjoying the scenery and wildlife.
- Red Banks Conservation Park - From World’s End, the tour heads eastward to Red Banks Conservation Park. Approaching along dirt roads, the sweeping openness of the Mallee region edges becomes visible, with the spectacular Burra Hills rolling to the north. Red Banks is explored, known as one of the richest megafauna sites in Australia and a culturally significant site for the Ngadjuri people. The ‘Landscapes of Change’ interpretive walking trail is followed, tracing the path of the diprotodons, who lived here until about 65,000 years ago.
The park conserves numerous threatened ecological communities, including scented mat-rush tussock grassland and mallee box woodland, as well as the rohrlack’s bluebush. Wildlife in the park includes short-beaked echidnas, southern hairy-nosed wombats, birds, and reptiles, along with present-day descendants of megafauna, such as western grey and red kangaroos.
NOTE: Following this day trip, Trackwork can organize an additional day trip to Burra and Mount Bryan on demand.
