A guesthouse along this road was the site of numerous horrific murders, sparking many tales, often exaggerated. According to one version, there was an inn known as the Halfway House. In the 1790s, it was operated by a brother and sister who lured lone travelers, murdered them at midnight, and disposed of their bodies in the nearby bog lakes, keeping their possessions. It is said that the ghosts of these unfortunate victims, whose bodies were left to the desolate bog land, haunt this isolated road, contributing to its ghostly reputation. The story of the Red-Haired Girl at the Inn is a classic piece of folklore.
