The area features a beach and harbor, with houses clustered around the bay. In 1949, Winston Churchill chose this picturesque location for painting.
• Cabo Girão - Following the visit to Câmara de Lobos, the next destination is the world’s second-highest sea cliff and Europe’s highest at 580 meters (1,775 feet). Here, breathtaking views of Câmara de Lobos and Funchal can be enjoyed.
• Ribeira Brava Beach - The journey continues to Ribeira Brava, a town that mirrors the character of the stream from which it derives its name: Ribeira (river) Brava (wild). The main attraction is the mother church, built in the 16th century and modified over time, featuring a Flemish artwork and a valuable Manueline-style baptismal font. The São Bento fort is a landmark on the sea promenade, where visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee.
• Ponta Do Sol - Next, head to Ponta Do Sol, one of the sunniest spots on the island, home to a charming village nestled in the steep valley folds, surrounded by dense banana plants.
• Vereda do Fanal - Ascending to Madeira’s mountain plateau, the Fanal forest is discovered. This magical forest often, but not always, shrouded in mysterious fog, features 600-year-old trees with twisted branches. Visitors can gradually enter an extraordinary landscape enveloped in mist, creating a unique atmosphere. WEATHER PERMITTING, a 15-minute walk in the Laurel tree forest is optional.
• Porto Moniz Natural Swimming Pools - Navigating a zigzag road leads to Porto Moniz, renowned for its stunning natural pools. Along the promenade, stretching from the pools to the pier, delightful restaurants offer local seafood and other delicious dishes.
• Miradouro do Véu da Noiva - After departing Porto Moniz, the journey continues to Brides Veil along the famous north coast route. The small group will drive through Seixal, a picturesque village with a spectacular coastline dominated by mountains, stopping to view one of Madeira’s renowned waterfalls, Brides Veil.
• São Vicente - The journey proceeds to São Vicente, a charming town with narrow, picturesque streets and pristine white old houses. The mother church, dating back to the 17th century, is a highlight.
