Some galleries in the Museum date back nearly 140 years, showcasing artifacts from the island’s earliest agricultural societies to the modern colonial era. The collection includes ancient rock inscriptions, swords, jewelry, coins, frescoes, and lamps. Newer galleries feature guns and stunning watercolor paintings of Ceylon by English visitors. -

It is situated in Independence Square (formerly Torrington Square) in the Cinnamon Gardens, Colombo, and also houses the Independence Memorial Museum.
The monument stands at the site where the formal ceremony for self-rule began, marked by the opening of the first parliament by Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, on February 4, 1948. -
