Anuradhapura City Tour
Anuradhapura - Anuradhapura, one of Sri Lanka’s ancient capitals, is renowned for its well-preserved ruins of an ancient civilization. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was a center of Theravada Buddhism for many centuries. The city is home to a descendant of the Bo tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. The following day, visitors will explore key sites such as Ruwanwelisaya, Thuparamaya, and Lovamahapaya. In the evening, they will visit Mihintale, a mountain peak near Anuradhapura, believed to be the site where Buddhist monk Mahinda met King Devanampiyatissa, marking the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka.
Polonnaruwa
Polonnaruwa - After breakfast, guests will travel to Polonnaruwa for sightseeing. Polonnaruwa is the second most ancient kingdom of Sri Lanka, known for its well-planned archaeological relics. It stands as a testament to the discipline and greatness of the kingdom’s early rulers and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors will explore the Polonnaruwa Archaeological site, including Vatadage and Nissanka Lata Mandapaya. In the evening, they will enjoy a jeep safari before traveling to Sigiriya for an overnight stay.
Sigiriya
Sigiriya - In the morning, guests will climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Following this, they will experience a bullock cart ride to observe Sri Lankan rural life and enjoy an Ayurvedic massage. Sigiriya is a stunning example of ancient Sri Lankan art, architecture, and landscaping. Built over 1,600 years ago, the 600 ft high rock once appeared as a massive white cloud above the forests, adorned with frescoes of semi-naked nymphs. A lion-shaped gatehouse guarded the entrance to the Sky Palace atop the rock. Though the climb is challenging, it is highly rewarding and a must-visit site. Guests will spend the night at the same hotel in Sigiriya.
Dambulla - Matale - Kandy
Dambulla - After breakfast, guests will head to Kandy, stopping at the Dambulla Cave Temple, Hindu Temple (Muthumariamman Temple), and the Spice Garden. They will spend the night at a hotel in Kandy. Dambulla, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka, featuring over 80 documented caves. Major attractions are spread across five caves, housing 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings, and four statues of gods and goddesses.
City Tour of Kandy
Kandy - After breakfast, guests will explore Kandy, a major city in Sri Lanka’s Central Province. It was the last capital of the ancient kings’ era and is nestled amidst hills in the Kandy plateau, known for its tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is both an administrative and religious city and the capital of the Central Province. It is home to The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred Buddhist worship sites, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Visitors will tour the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Royal Botanical Gardens - Afterwards, guests will visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, surrounded by the Mahaweli River. This 60-hectare garden features over 4,000 plant species, including orchids, spices, palm trees, and medicinal plants. They will also visit the Gem Museum in Kandy, Kandy View Point, walk around Kandy Lake, and enjoy a shopping excursion. Guests will spend the night at the same hotel in Kandy.
Ella through Nuwara Eliya
Ella - Guests will travel to Ella via Nuwara Eliya. From Nanu Oya, they will embark on one of the world’s most scenic train journeys to Ella, a tranquil village in Sri Lanka’s central highlands. They will spend the night at a hotel in Ella.
Yala National Park
Yala National Park - The following day, guests will head to Tissamaharama, near Yala National Park, for a safari. Yala is the most visited and second-largest national park in Sri Lanka, combining a strict nature reserve with a national park. It covers nearly 130,000 hectares of light forests, scrubs, grasslands, tanks, and lagoons. Known for its diverse wildlife, Yala is crucial for the conservation of Sri Lankan elephants, leopards, and aquatic birds. Guests will spend the night at a hotel in Tissamaharama.
Mirissa
Mirissa - Guests will proceed to Mirissa to relax on the beach and enjoy a whale and dolphin watching tour. They will spend two nights at a hotel in Mirissa.
Mirissa Beach
Mirissa Beach - Whale and dolphin watching in Mirissa is one of Sri Lanka’s most exciting water activities. The warm waters are ideal for spotting blue whales, Bryde’s whales, sperm whales, fin whales, common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and occasionally killer whales. Spinner dolphins, Risso’s dolphins, and striped dolphins can also be seen. The whale watching season runs from November to April when the waters are warm and calm. Boats can carry up to 40 passengers with an observation deck, and tours typically start around 7:00 am, lasting about 3.5-4 hours.
Galle - Departure
Galle - Guests will visit Galle’s old town and the Meetiyagoda moonstone mine. Galle, the capital of Sri Lanka’s Southern Province, flourished during the Dutch colonial period in the 18th century. It is the best example of a fortified city built by the Portuguese in South and Southeast Asia, showcasing the blend of Portuguese architectural styles and local traditions. Extensively fortified by the Dutch from 1649 onwards, the Old Town of Galle and its Fortifications is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers. After this, guests will be dropped off at Bandaranaike International Airport or any preferred location, marking the end of the tour.
