Well a visit! - I have been to Brazil on business many times over the years, but not as a vacation. This time I stayed with a friend in Sao Paulo and travelled to Campos do Jordao, it was a great visit; I'm very used to traveling in Switzerland and this little village although very commercial by Swiss standards, is well worth a visit. It’s a very good take on a typical Bavarian/ Swiss style village.
It has excellent, if a little expensive restaurants, some great beers and a friendly bunch of locals and visitors.
As it was mid-May, the local “Paulistas” were wearing their winter clothes, but as a NJ dweller it was shorts and a short sleeve shirt for me!
Dinner service starts early in the main street and continues late, almost every restaurant had live music (some too loud) and “barkers” to entice you in.
Don’t miss a trip to the “mountains”, OK, not as high as in Switzerland, but still a lovely view if not cloudy. There is also a “cable car” that will let you have a great view of the town itself.
We missed a visit to the new nearby historical museum since it doesn’t open until October, the articles suggest it will be worth the visit.
We ate in several places all were enjoyable, one was exceptional with a but … We liked the look of El Fogon -165, however when we arrived, we were the only customers!
It’s not the main season yet and the location is just away from the main drag. Our steak with fries and mushroom Risotto was superb, just remember many portions in Brazil are large and often a half portion is enough fto share between two.
My friend selected Villa Amista as our hotel, it’s a modern hotel just around the corner from the many Swiss style buildings and has great facilities especially the included breakfast – highly recommended.
You can find many pictures of the buildings online, so I will not repeat them – but this town map be of some use. The tram was not running when I was there.
So don’t just think about it, include Campos do Jordao and surrounding area in your visit.

The landscape of Campo de Jodāo is beautiful, the architecture beautiful, it feels like it is Europe. We loved everything!

Wonderful - There were a lot of great stops which were very interesting. The Tour Guide was very funny and we had a lot of good laughs throughout the tour. He was very well informed and was able to answer all our questions.

Life and energy on walks - The whole day walk was very pleasant. The van arrived at the agreed time at the hotel, the time in passage in each place, was enough to appreciate them and take photos. The Mauritius guide was very helpful.

Very cute but expensive - It was my fourth time in Campos do Jordão, it remains beautiful, elegant people, very chic restaurants, but I found the values of shops and restaurants a little out of reality.

Pico Itapeva, Parque Amantikir, several shops and restaurants. - I live in Belo Horizonte and left.
It is a wonderful city and I intend to return in December for Christmas Light.
Jordan Fields exceeded my expectations.

Underwhelming unfortunately - I wanted to love this tour so much. Our tour guide was very nice and the driver was great but the whole things was rather underwhelming. We drove about 3 hours taking a 30 minute restroom break 2.5 hours in at a place you had to spend $5 to use their bathroom. Then we met out tour guide, we stopped get out of the van to take pictures. Went to the governors mansion which we were not able to go in because they were at capacity for the day which apparently happens often so looked at the outside then left. Next stop was an overlook where we stopped to take pictures. The waterfall was pretty cool, we spent 30 minutes there We stopped at a chocolate shop that frankly was the worst chocolate that I had in Brazil so I do think the tour company or guides get a kickback from that, it was not the tasting menu the booking made it seem, you get one chocolate chip. Finally ending going into the town with lots of shops and restaurants. The tour guide was not present for that, she said her goodbyes and instead we had 3 hours of free time and met the driver back for the drive home. It was raining so it was unfortunate there was nothing we could do during our free time as lots was closed and shut down because the weather. The shops and restaurants were cool but unfortunately all sold the similar tourist products so it was a once you’ve seen a few you saw them all. Another girl in our group was trying to book a taxi to drive her the 3 hours back she was so bored. I wanted to love this tour so much and it looks so amazing and the town was beautiful but the booking description wayyyyy hyped it up. I was blessed to go and appreciate the knowledge and work everyone put in it was just lacking and in my opinion not worth the 6 hour (7 after picking everyone up and dropping them off at their hotels) drive from São Paulo. Sorry for the negative review.
