- Palacio Pedro Ernesto - Camara Municipal do Rio de Janeiro - The Pedro Ernesto Palace, now home to the City Council, is part of one of the city’s most valuable architectural ensembles. The main facade, facing the square, is perfectly symmetrical and rich in details, with an access staircase, an upper gallery with double columns, and two “tempiettos” adorning the building’s corners.
- Centro Cultural Justica Federal - The Cultural Center of the Federal Justice is a renowned space for promoting and ensuring public access to various forms of cultural expression, hosting exhibitions, dance and music shows, courses, seminars, lectures, and more.
- Tiradentes Palace - This magnificent palace in the city center captivates passersby with its Corinthian columns and eclectic style. The Tiradentes Palace was the former building of the Brazilian National Congress from 1926 to 1960 and is now the seat of the State Legislative Assembly.
- Praca Quinze de Novembro - The square is located between Estação das Barcas, from where boats depart for Niterói, Rua 1º de Março, Arco do Teles, and Paço Imperial, a colonial building from the 18th century that served as the residence of the governors of the Captaincy of Rio de Janeiro and later housed the King of Portugal Dom João VI and Brazilian emperors. Today, the Paço is a cultural center.
One of the square’s symbols is the Mestre Valentim fountain, inaugurated in 1789, which is currently inactive. The Church of Our Lady of Monte do Carmo is also located in the square. In 1888, the square was the site of celebrations for the Golden Law, signed by Princess Isabel, which abolished slavery in the country.
- Paco Imperial - Built in 1743, it served as the residence of the Viceroys of Brazil. With the arrival of D. João VI’s court in Rio de Janeiro, the Palace became the seat of the Kingdom and Empire governments. After the Republic’s Proclamation, it housed the Post and Telegraph. In 1938, it was listed by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage and is now a significant cultural history landmark. Since 1985, Paço Imperial has been a cultural center linked to the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute of the Ministry of Culture, offering free entrance year-round.
- Correios Cultural Centre - The façade’s architectural lines are of an eclectic style, reflecting the early 20th century, initially intended to house a Brazilian Lloyd school. However, it was used for over 50 years for administrative and operational postal functions. In the 1980s, the building was closed for renovation and reopened on July 2, 1992, partially renovated, to host the “Exposição Ecológica 92,” part of the United Nations Conference on Environment Calendar – RIO 92.
The official inauguration of Centro Cultural Correios occurred in August of the following year with the World official exposition Filatelia – Brasiliana, 93. Since then, the Centro Cultural Correios has been a prominent presence in the city, promoting events in various areas, such as theater, video, music, and arts, focusing on integrating the people of Rio with diverse artistic expressions.
- Travessa do Comercio - One of the most fascinating tours in the Center of Rio is exploring the alleys and lanes that form the Travessa do Comércio, near Praça XV. This area, closed to car traffic, is one of the few places in the city that preserves the colonial era’s characteristics.
- Casa Franca-Brasil - Commissioned in 1819 by King João VI to Grandjean de Montigny, architect of the French Artistic Mission, the building itself is an important historical document. It marks the first record of the neoclassical style in Rio de Janeiro, a trend that later became popular, giving the city, marked by its colonial houses, a more cosmopolitan, European flair.
- Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil - CCBB Rio de Janeiro - The CCBB is a cultural center featuring exhibition rooms, three theaters, a library, a cinema, and a video room. It is housed in an art deco style building located in what was once the financial district of Rio de Janeiro.
- Church of Our Lady of the Candelaria - The Church of Our Lady of Candelaria is a Catholic temple situated in the city center of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is one of the city’s main religious monuments and a traditional venue for weddings in Carioca society.
