- Convent of St. Anthony (Convento do Santo Antônio) - The Convent of St. Anthony’s history began in 1592 with the arrival of the first Franciscan friars in Rio de Janeiro, who initially settled near Santa Luzia Beach. They soon built a small hermitage on a hill further inland. In 1607, they were granted permanent possession of the hill, now known as Morro de Santo Antônio, where they began constructing the convent on June 4, 1608. Brother Francisco dos Santos initiated the first project, with contributions from several other Franciscan architects.

- Arco do Teles - In 1738, the construction of the House of Governors (later the Imperial Palace) began under Gomes Freire de Andrade, Count of Bobadela. By 1743, the new House of Governors was completed, enhancing the Largo do Paço area’s value. Recognizing the area’s growth, Portuguese judge Antônio Telles Barreto de Menezes (after whom the arch is named) purchased land to build a house or set of houses for renting to visiting merchants.
- Casa França-Brasil - This impressive neoclassical building was designed by Grandjean de Montigny, a member of the French Artistic Mission (1816) and professor at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts. Commissioned by João VI of Portugal in 1819 for the city’s first Commerce Square, it was inaugurated on May 13, 1820.
- Centro Cultural Justiça Federal - The Federal Justice Cultural Center (CCJF), affiliated with the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region, occupies the former Federal Supreme Court seat. Construction began in 1905 as part of Rio de Janeiro’s city reform project during Mayor Pereira Passos’ administration. Initially intended for the Mithra Archiepiscopal, the building was acquired for the Supreme Court and inaugurated on April 3, 1909. Designed by architect Adolpho Morales de Los Rios, it is a significant example of eclectic architecture in the city.
- Correios Cultural Centre - Originally built to house the Lloyd Brazilian shipping company’s school, the building was inaugurated in 1922. However, the school was never established, and the property served for over five decades as the administrative hub for the Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company.
- São Francisco da Penitência Church - The lay members of the Order of the Third Order of San Francisco settled in Rio de Janeiro in 1619, initially using a chapel within the Franciscan convent of Santo Antônio on Morro de Santo Antônio. In the mid-17th century, the Franciscans granted them land next to the convent’s church to build their own temple. The Church of St. Francis of Penance was constructed, with interruptions, between 1657 and 1733.
- Tiradentes Palace - The original building was an imperial parliament, constructed in 1640, with a lower floor housing a jail known as the “Old Chain,” where colonial prisoners, including Joaquim José da Silva Xavier (Tiradentes), were held before his execution on April 21, 1792.
- Palácio Pedro Ernesto - Câmara Municipal do Rio de Janeiro - Founded alongside the city in 1565, it initially comprised a prosecutor and a judge. Two years later, the first election for Rio de Janeiro’s City Hall took place. Twelve councilors were elected annually, with the House President also serving as the municipal mayor.
