- Copenhagen - The tour explores the city’s oldest areas, revealing hidden treasures like cobblestone streets, timber-framed houses, and serene green spaces amidst the urban landscape. Krusemyntegade is a cobblestone street that exudes hygge with its old-world charm, showcasing the city’s hyggelig nature for those who take the time to explore.
- Kastellet - Kastellet is a place in Copenhagen where time seems to slow. As participants cross the old moat and enter the fortress grounds, city sounds fade, replaced by tales of Vikings. The crunch of gravel, rustling leaves, and the rhythm of walking create an effortless hygge experience.
- Kastelsmøllen - Inside Kastellet, Kastelsmøllen, the old windmill, offers a quiet hygge moment. Positioned on the ramparts, surrounded by soft grass and city views, the mill, though no longer operational, feels alive, part of the historic rhythm.
- The Little Mermaid - With Viking tales in mind, participants will experience Copenhagen’s fairy-tale magic by visiting the iconic Little Mermaid and discovering the unexpected truths about her.
- Gefionspringvandet - While exploring the green oasis around the Citadel, participants will encounter Gefion. Here, they will learn about Copenhagen’s origins (Hint: It’s considered a dark place by Danes!) and hear Norse myths from Viking times.
- St. Alban’s Church - While admiring the Gefion Fountain, participants will hear about St. Alban’s Church, quietly nestled in Churchillparken, surrounded by swaying trees and peaceful paths.
- Churchillparken - Leaving St. Alban’s Church, participants enter Churchillparken, a tranquil green space in the city. It invites visitors to slow down and breathe, with tall trees providing shade and golden autumn leaves creating a soft, hushed atmosphere, embodying hygge.
- Frederiks Kirke (Marmorkirken) - On Amalienborg’s grounds, the majestic Marble Church draws attention with its copper-green dome contrasting against the sky.
- Amalienborg Museum - The tour reaches the spectacular Amalienborg, the Royal Palace, just in time for the changing of the guards. The guide shares insights about the Danish royal family and insider stories about the Royal Guards, known only to those who have served.
- Changing of her Majesty’s guard at Amalienborg Castle - Observing the Changing of the Guard at Amalienborg is more than a royal tradition; it’s a shared moment of stillness in the city. As guards in dark uniforms and bearskin hats pass, there’s a quiet pride and sense of belonging.
- Amaliehaven - Behind Amalienborg, Amaliehaven feels like a secret garden. Its symmetrical design, fountains, and views of the opera house offer a peaceful escape from the guard change crowds, refreshing energy for the adventure ahead.
- Copenhagen Opera House - Walking down Toldboden, participants enjoy views of the Opera House and Operaparken’s greenery. The guide leads them to a nearby spot for a delicious lunch featuring local flavors.
- Nyhavn - Nyhavn’s vibrant waterfront and lively atmosphere provide a perfect setting for a hyggelig break. With canal views and charming houses, the guide leads participants to a nearby spot for a delightful lunch.
- Copenhagen King’s Square - Kongens Nytorv’s grand square offers a brief hyggelig moment. Surrounded by historic buildings and lively cafés, it blends everyday city life with rich history.
- Stroeget - Instead of joining the busy crowds on Strøget, the main shopping street, the tour takes quieter side streets where the city’s true hyggelig spirit thrives.
- Nikolaj Kunsthal - Here, participants admire the spire atop what appears to be a church. The guide shares Copenhageners’ views on religion and its cultural impact today.
- Christiansborg Slot - Serving as the Danish parliament, the palace is where participants learn about Danish politics, the welfare system, and the cultural law of Jante. These concepts contribute to Denmark’s reputation as one of the world’s happiest countries, and the guide reveals how they influence Danish happiness.
- Soren Kierkegaard Statue I Bibliotekshaven - Bibliotekshaven is a hidden oasis in central Copenhagen, offering a peaceful retreat. As participants explore its paths and lawns, they encounter Søren Kierkegaard’s statue, a tribute to one of Denmark’s greatest thinkers.
- Rundetarn - Passing the impressive Rundetårn, the guide shares stories of King Christian IV and his impact on Copenhagen’s architecture and character.
- Kongens Have - Escaping the urban sprawl, participants enter The King’s Garden, a beautiful green haven. They hear the dramatic story of how the once-royal park became one of the world’s first public parks, involving former kings with grand delusions and love triangles.
- Rosenborg Castle - From Kongens Have, Rosenborg Castle appears in its fairy-tale beauty. In the garden, the castle’s elegant towers and red brick façades invite admiration, symbolizing Danish history and royal tradition.
