Paleokastritsa is arguably the most famous and picturesque village on the island of Corfu, situated 25 km northwest of Corfu Town. The name Paleokastritsa translates to “old little castle,” named after Angelokastro, a Byzantine castle perched on a hill above the village. This cosmopolitan resort extends along a coastal road, surrounded by stunning bays and a charming harbor where excursion boats depart for nearby secluded beaches. At the road’s end, just past the main harbor, lies the Monastery of the Virgin Mary, which overlooks the village. The monastery houses an intriguing collection of post-Byzantine icons, books, and other artifacts, including valuable icons from the 15th century.

The beach features shallow waters, has been awarded the Blue Flag, and is fully equipped with facilities, including opportunities for water sports.
