• Playa Ajuy - Caves walk!!
  Yes, a walk to the stunning Ajuy caves, the oldest formations in the Canary Islands.

These caves are part of Fuerteventura’s basal complex, formed by the submarine flow of lava and sediment that surfaced and began shaping the island 100 million years ago during the Cretaceous period.

The rocks emerged from a depth of 3,000 meters, forming the base that now supports this island and Lanzarote.

The caves hold significant geological and paleontological importance and are among the 150 sites of primary geological interest worldwide.

Visiting them is like traveling back in time to the origins of Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands.

• It was where Jean de Béthencourt, the conqueror of the Canary Islands, landed in the 15th century.

• Betancuria - Free time to enjoy… Just wander around and savor the old village.

• Mirador Guise y Ayose - Another stunning stop with a panoramic view in the mountains (669 meters high), and the two statues of the guanches spark the imagination!
• Mirador de las Peñitas - The ravine of Las Peñitas. An exceptional enclave!

Another great panoramic view on this day trip.
From the Las Peñitas viewpoint in Betancuria, you’ll see an evocative view: a green oasis in the middle of the desert.

The underground river flowing under the Las Peñitas ravine was created by human hands (in 1937) and forms a small lake dotted with native plants.
The open esplanade of the viewpoint is perfect for taking quality photos.

Home to the local inhabitants, the chipmunks.

• Mirador Sicasumbre - Driving south, we arrive at the Sicasumbre Viewpoint, located about 300 meters above sea level. This is one of the best places on our island to observe the sky.

The area’s beauty is perfectly complemented by the facilities the viewpoint offers, from information and signage to the mountains, allowing those who wish to comfortably use their cameras.

Our guide, Pepe, says: “It’s a panoramic and breathtaking viewpoint on clear, cloudy days.
We’ll stop there whenever the weather conditions are favorable, without fail.”

• Ermita de la Peña Trail - Beautiful little church of Fuerteventura’s patron “the Virgin de la Peña” … Your guide will tell you all about it.

If time permits and the church is open, we will visit the Ermita de la Peña…

• Castillo De San Buenaventura - Fuste Castle, San Buenaventura Tower, or Caleta de Fuste is a defensive tower located in the town of Caleta de Fuste. It has been a Site of Cultural Interest since 1949.

Its main function was to defend the bay of Caleta de Fuste, one of the island’s three main ports. In its early years of operation, its walls were expanded from the initial 3 meters to the current thickness of almost 6 meters, presumably after being damaged by a cannonball in a pirate attack.

In the 19th century, it passed into private hands, probably due to its loss of military usefulness. In the 1980s, a tourist complex was built, the pools of which now surround the building.

• Vega de Rio Palmas - Known for the film Exodus “Gods & Kings” and the Church of Virgin de La Peña. The patron of Fuerteventura. Your guide will tell you all about it. Lunch place!
• Mirador De Vallebrón - An area of great landscape value

The protected landscape of Vallebrón is located between the towns of La Oliva and Puerto del Rosario, in the north of the island of Fuerteventura. It is a geomorphological entity that is representative of the island and of great landscape value.

It covers an area of almost 1,680 hectares, which represents 3.5% of the protected area of the island. Vallebrón forms a landscape characterized by an elongated ridge with a knife-shaped relief, flanked by two large U-shaped ravines, Valle Largo and Valle Chico.

The southernmost point of the ridge coincides with the Montaña de la Muda, a place of historical interest due to an archaeological site. To the southwest lies the town of Tindaya, which is bordered by the Montaña Quemada to the south and the Montaña de Tindaya to the north.

We will stop there if the weather conditions are favorable!

• Los Molinos - Tiscamanita is a small farming village of about 500 inhabitants, in the south of the island of Fuerteventura.

To the east of the village lies the Caldera de Gairía volcano, one of the last volcanic structures on the island of Fuerteventura; it is a Strombolian volcano with a height of 461 meters.
This recent volcanic activity has created an arid area with a very special biological environment.
Volcanic ash from the volcano has been exploited for a long time, including through the “agricultural technical cultivo enarenado” (“silted cultivation”), in which the fields are covered with pozzolana to protect the soil from the evaporation of water by the strong winds in the region.

Pozzolana has left deep fissures in the flanks of the volcano, but the Caldera de Gairía is now protected as a natural monument.

• Montaña de Tindaya - The most striking monument in the village is the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Caridad, a small temple that has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

The volcano Tindaya has been declared a Natural Monument due to the scientific importance of its geomorphological structure, as well as a point of cultural interest due to its archaeological values, especially due to the abundance of podomorphic petroglyphs and the sacred character given by the majos, first pre-Hispanic settlers of the island.

It also has the presence of some rare endemisms such as Caralluma burchardii, fleshy plants with the appearance of cacti.

3 km south of the city, at the foot of Mount Quemada, stands the monument in honor of Miguel de Unamuno.

• Molino de Tefia - The agricultural prison colony of Tefía was a concentration camp during the Franco dictatorship, located in the village of Tefía, belonging to the municipality of Puerto del Rosario.

It was active between 1954 and 1966 and served for the incarceration of ordinary and political prisoners, and for the re-education of male homosexuals.

Also the place where the first airport (1930) was and the first tourists arrived.

• Tesejerague (Pueblo) - Tesejerague:
  The little village of Tesejerague is located in the municipality of Tuineje in a landscape of spectacular dry plains and palm trees beneath Tirba Mountain.

We will see the beautiful church built in 1715. The Ermita de San José de Tesejerague.. and some other surprises.

• La Oliva - It is located in the north of the island and includes the islet of Lobos in its municipal area, being the second largest municipality in the Canary Islands and the second most populated on the island, after Puerto del Rosario.

It was the island capital from 1834, replacing Betancuria, until the transfer of the capital in 1860 to the city of Puerto del Rosario.

• Gran Tarajal - You are the closest to Africa, about 97 km. Your guide will tell you all about it.
• Puerto del Rosario - We drive past the young capital (1862), actually through the center and along the most important port in Fuerteventura.

At high tide, we see the natural swimming pool of the El Charco neighborhood in Puerto del Rosario!!

• Lajares - Lajares at the foot of the volcanoes Calderon Honda, Arena, and Blanca.

Lajares, as a surfing center, is the starting point for one of Fuerteventura’s most spectacular hikes: the volcano hike.

Besides the volcanoes, Lajares is also known for its art market held every Saturday. The market is particularly famous for its embroidery. The guide will tell you all about it!

• Tuineje - In addition to beaches, landscapes, and gastronomy, there is much more to discover in Fuerteventura. The most extensive island in the archipelago has countless places with their own character, such as this picturesque village of TUINEJE with a rich history.
  Also known for its tomato cultivation and, of course, the series film Doctor Who.

Also very famous for the fact that every month the camel market was held here and the heaviest battle in the history of Majorero. The battle against the English in the 19th century. Your guide tells you all about it!

• Pajara - Pájara is one of the oldest towns in Fuerteventura and was a very early settlement of Betancuria.

It survived the complete destruction during the Arab invasion of 1593, when all of Betancuria was reduced to dust.

The town takes its name from the hen pheasant, as shown on its coat of arms.
