- Dunluce Castle - Dramatically situated on a basalt cliff along Antrim’s north coast, Dunluce Castle was the historic seat of the MacDonnell clan and has stood as a remarkable coastal fortress since the 13th century. With a rich history influenced by Viking, medieval, and later periods, the castle is one of the most iconic landmarks on the Antrim Coast.
Its rugged location overlooking the North Atlantic has made it famous not only in Irish history but also in popular culture, appearing in Game of Thrones as Pyke and inspiring C.S. Lewis in The Chronicles of Narnia.
Please note: this is a photo stop only. Entry to the castle is not included, but there will be time to take photos and enjoy the views.
- Giant’s Causeway - Discover the heart of Ireland’s ancient mythological landscape at the otherworldly Giant’s Causeway. Walk among the great pillars of what was once an epic bridge to Scotland, constructed by none other than Finn McCool! Legend has it that this bridge once stretched all the way to Scotland, built by Finn when he wanted to challenge a particularly fierce Scottish giant!
Some say that ‘Nature doesn’t work in straight lines,’ but those who do have never been to the Giant’s Causeway. An area of over 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, most of which are hexagonal in shape with up to 8 sides.
This magnificent landscape looks like it was crafted by the hands of a giant, but it is entirely naturally formed by the slow cooling of lava from an eruption millions of years ago. Recognized as one of the top 100 geological heritage sites worldwide, it is a must-see for everyone.
- The Dark Hedges - The Dark Hedges, our third stop of the day, is a destination that attracts visitors from around the globe. Known as one of the most iconic roads in Ireland, this avenue leads to Gracehill House, built around 1775.
James Stuart, who constructed the new home, also built the road and planted the beech trees that now arch over the road to form an atmospheric tunnel filled with the creaking of beams and the dappled light filtering through the canopy above. It can be a spooky experience at the Dark Hedges, as they are said to be haunted by a mysterious ghost known as The Grey Lady.
The Dark Hedges gained worldwide fame by being featured in Game of Thrones as the King’s Road! It’s not all fantasy here, as they were also featured in the 2017 movie Transformers: The Last Knight.
Whether it’s Autobots, ghosts, King Robert Baratheon, or just the chance to stroll down this beautiful avenue, The Dark Hedges has what you seek.
- Titanic Distillers At Thompson Dock - Situated right by the enormous dry dock that once housed the Titanic Ocean Liner, this location inspired the name for Belfast’s first whiskey distillery opened since prohibition!
The history of the Thompson Dock, where the distillery is located, will be shared with you on your whiskey tour, from ships to whiskey! You will be introduced to whiskey making in Ireland and learn why this distillery is the first working one opened in Belfast for over 90 years!
Titanic Whiskey is a new whiskey, but you will create lasting memories here as you are guided through the distillation process and enjoy a tasting experience that will leave you rosy-cheeked and eager for more. This award-winning distillery is here to stay, so be among those who can say, ‘I was there, I tried Titanic Whiskey, and I didn’t sink!’
- Belfast - For the final stop on your tour, visit Belfast city centre before returning to Dublin. This area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. Having been at the forefront of many parts of Irish history, it is hard to know where to begin, so be sure to ask your guide! You will be dropped off right by Belfast City Hall with enough time to grab some snacks for the road home or maybe even enjoy a pint! Explore around the city hall and its surroundings before returning to your coach for the journey back to Dublin.
