Day 1 – Cricova Winery, Orheiul Vechi, Curchi Monastery
Cricova Winery - Discover Moldova’s renowned underground “wine city,” a vast network of over 120 km of limestone tunnels. This exclusive tour guides visitors through the quiet subterranean streets, into the maturation cellars of signature wines, and reveals the secrets of Cricova’s celebrated Champagne-method sparkling wine production. Guests will also admire the prestigious National Collection, boasting over 1.3 million bottles, including rare historic vintages, and explore Cricova’s beautifully crafted underground halls.
Old Orhei Archaeological Complex - Journey to Moldova’s most iconic historical site, dramatically perched on the cliffs of the Răut River. Explore the 15th-century cave monastery, view the monks’ cells and bell tower carved into the rock, and admire the stone cross overlooking the valley. Discover remnants of ancient fortresses and medieval towns while enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
Curchi Monastery - Visit one of Moldova’s most stunning monasteries, founded in the 18th century in the picturesque Vatici Valley. Established in 1773 by brothers Iordache and Mihail Curchi as a modest wooden hermitage, Curchi has evolved into an impressive spiritual and architectural complex. Explore ancient churches dedicated to Saint Demetrius and wander among monastic cells, the bell tower, and other buildings that narrate a story of resilience: enduring Soviet closure and transformation, followed by restoration since the early 2000s. Admire the Cathedral of the Nativity, the tallest church in Moldova with its 57-meter dome, and explore the complex with five churches, a bell tower, and restored monastic cells. Surrounded by forests and orchards, Curchi is a perfect blend of history, architecture, and serenity.
Day 2 – Mileștii Mici, Tighina Fortress, Căpriana Monastery
Mileștii Mici Winery - Explore the legendary underground wine city of Mileștii Mici, holder of the Guinness World Record for the largest wine collection on Earth—over 1.5-2 million bottles stored in limestone tunnels extending more than 200 km. Ride a small train through the underground “streets” named after grape varieties, pass giant oak barrels, and see rare vintages resting in perfect conditions of 12–14°C. This unique journey delves into Moldova’s proudest wine treasure and offers an unforgettable glimpse into the world of winemaking.
Tighina Fortress - Explore one of Moldova’s most impressive fortresses, rising on the banks of the Dniester River. Originally built in the 15th century and rebuilt in stone by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in 1538, it became a major Ottoman stronghold. Walk through its massive walls and towers, see the church inside the citadel, and enjoy panoramic views while learning about its role in centuries of battles between empires.
Căpriana Monastery - Travel into the serene Codrii forest to reach Căpriana Monastery, one of Moldova’s oldest and most historic spiritual sites. See the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (the oldest surviving stone church in Moldova, built around 1420-1429), plus the later St. George (late Baroque) and St. Nicholas churches. Walk through peaceful forest surroundings, visit the monastery’s library, which preserved old manuscripts and played an important role in Moldova’s cultural and religious history, and enjoy views from the hilltop observation point overlooking the white churches against the green woods.
Day 3 – Castel MIMI, Candle of Gratitude, Soroca Fortress
Castel Mimi Wine Resort - Visit the elegant Castel Mimi in Bulboaca—Moldova’s first authentic chateau winery, built around 1900-1901 by Constantin Mimi, who studied winemaking in Montpellier. Tour its graceful neoclassical architecture, stroll through the gardens, explore underground cellars that once held up to 300,000 liters of wine, and learn how this historic estate was restored between 2011 and 2016 into a luxury wine resort. See its museum, art galleries, tasting rooms, courtyard views, spa, and restaurant, making this a refined and immersive experience of Moldova’s wine culture and heritage. Taste three outstanding authentic wines, experiencing the true flavor of Moldova in a refined setting.
The Candle of Gratitude Monument - Climb more than 600 stone steps to reach this striking 30-meter candle-shaped monument, dramatically perched above the Dniester River. Dedicated to Moldova’s heroes and defenders of its culture, the site invites visitors to pause in the small chapel at its base before enjoying the spectacular views from the top. From here, see Soroca Fortress, the winding river, and the surrounding countryside—a perfect place for photos and reflection.
Soroca Fortress - Visit one of the best-preserved medieval strongholds in Moldova, originally built in wood by Stephen the Great in the 15th century and later rebuilt in stone by Petru Rareș between 1543 and 1546. Walk along its perfectly circular walls (diameter ~30 m), examine its five bastions, walls over 3 meters thick, and towers rising ~21 meters high. See the restored chambers and the chapel tucked above the entrance tower and enjoy sweeping views of the Dniester River and the town of Soroca. Learn about its strategic role in defending Moldova’s borders—guarding river crossings, resisting Ottoman, Tatar, and Russian incursions, and being part of a chain of fortresses along the Dniester.
