- Santuario de la Virgen del Rocio - This church, with its unique Gothic architectural style, dates back to the late 19th century. Perched on a hillside, it is common to see locals making the steep climb as a tribute to the Virgin. Following this, we will visit an indigenous family to witness the traditional weaving of Panama hats, a significant craft in Southern Ecuador that plays a vital role in the local economy. Our journey continues with a scenic drive through the captivating highlands, where we can enjoy the breathtaking views.
- Ingapirca Ruins - Ingapirca stands as Ecuador’s most significant Inca archaeological site. Built by sun worshippers in the 15th century, this fortress-temple is situated in the Cañar valley, about 60 miles northeast of Cuenca, at an altitude of 10,500 feet.
Here, one can explore one of the most notable Inca structures, the “Sun’s Temple,” an elliptical platform encircled by courtyards, terraces, and various other constructions. To further immerse in the local ambiance, a brief hike will allow us to view the Inca’s Face, a prominent stone formation.
