:Cusco – Ninamarca/Pilcopata Town – Paraiso Lodge

Manu National Park - Departing from Cusco by private bus, the journey begins with a visit to the pre-Inca burial towers of Ninamarca. The route continues through the mountains to the folkloric town of Paucartambo, and then into the cloud forest. In San Pedro, there is an approximately 1-hour walk to observe Peru’s National Bird, the Cock of the Rock, along with various monkeys, plants, and flowers. Arrival at the private rainforest lodge is late in the evening.

Manu National Park - After breakfast, the journey continues by private car for 1.5 hours to the port at Atalaya (500 m.a.s.l). Here, a motorized boat is boarded to reach the next destination – Rainforest Lodge. Nearby paths are explored, revealing a diverse array of species such as tarantulas, ants, butterflies, several monkey species, large trees, exotic plants, and palms. The day concludes with an overnight stay at the lodge.

Manu National Park - An early start sees a motorboat trip to a nearby clay-lick, home to parrots, budgerigars, and macaws (guacamayo), offering an unforgettable experience. Afterward, breakfast is enjoyed back at the lodge. A walk along nearby paths follows, showcasing the area’s rich flora and fauna, including monkeys, birds, and medicinal plants. Lunch is at the lodge before heading to Aguas Calientes (hot springs in Manu National Park) for a rejuvenating hot bath and setting up camp in the jungle.

Optional: A night boat ride for caiman watching.

Manu National Park - Another chance to visit the parrot clay-lick to see parrots, budgerigars, and macaws consuming clay essential for their digestion. With luck, large mammals like capybaras, tapirs, anteaters, and monkeys may also be spotted. Lunch is back at the Rainforest Lodge. In the afternoon, a visit to Machuwasi Lake offers a chance to sail in “remos” (hollowed tree trunks used by locals), providing an excellent opportunity to observe a wide variety of local wildlife. The day ends with a return to the lodge for an overnight stay.

Manu National Park - Spanning 1.8 million hectares, Manu National Park is Peru’s largest national park and one of South America’s premier locations for observing diverse jungle wildlife. Biologists consider Manu to have the highest biodiversity of any jungle reserve globally, stretching from the Andes’ eastern slopes to the low jungle, merging a vast range of jungle environments. The park, extending from the Andes to the Brazilian jungle and the Atlantic, remains largely untouched by logging, making it one of the planet’s most pristine forests. This, along with its remarkable bird diversity, are key attractions. Over 15,000 plant species have been documented in this vibrant region, with nearly 250 tree varieties found in a single hectare of this rich reserve.

:Lodge Atalaya Port Back to Cusco

Manu National Park - After breakfast, the return journey begins with a motorized boat ride to Atalaya Port, where a private vehicle awaits to transport travelers back to Cusco, arriving between 7 and 7:30 pm.
