Cusco: City Tour & Archaeological Site
Centro Historico De Cusco - Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel, then enjoy a free morning to explore the city at your leisure. The tour begins with a visit to the Santo Domingo Convent, a grand Renaissance-Baroque complex built over the Inca Coricancha temple. This temple was one of the most significant sites dedicated to sun worship, with its foundations still visible at the convent’s base. Historical accounts describe the temple as being adorned with gold leaf and filled with golden depictions of nature. Next, visit the Cathedral, the most striking monument in the Main Square. Travel to the hills above Cusco to explore the remains of the Sacsayhuaman fortress, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Cusco, and the ruins of the Qenqo temple and amphitheater, where the Incas are believed to have conducted agricultural rituals. Admire Qenqo before visiting Puka Pukara (‘Red Fortress’ in Quechua), an Inca military complex situated on a prominent hill. Its dwellings, squares, bathrooms, aqueducts, walls, and towers remain visible. Afterward, return to your hotel.
Cusco - Sacred Valley: Chinchero, Ollantaytambo & Living Museum of Yucay
Sacred Valley of the Incas - Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel to visit Chinchero, a traditional Cusco town located at an elevated point with stunning valley views. The locals maintain the artisan traditions and inherited knowledge of the Incas, reflected in their clothing and customs. Chinchero also features archaeological remains and a beautiful 17th-century church, one of Peru’s first Catholic buildings. Next, visit the Living Museum of Yucay, an Andean traditions interpretation center showcasing textile work, adobe, pottery, and silverware production using ancestral techniques. The museum is home to llamas, sheep, and alpacas, which can be fed! Upon reaching Ollantaytambo, continuously inhabited since Inca times, enjoy an exceptional Andean culinary experience in a restaurant that captures the true spirit of the Sacred Valley in a warm atmosphere. Later, climb the iconic fortress built beside a mountain. At the end of this activity, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu - Cusco
Machu Picchu - After breakfast at the hotel, a transportation service will take you to Ollanta Station to board the train to Aguas Calientes, the closest town to Machu Picchu. Enjoy a scenic journey through dramatic Andean landscapes before arriving at Aguas Calientes station. From there, board a coach for a 25-minute ride to Machu Picchu. Known as the ‘Lost City of the Incas,’ it is believed to have been constructed in the 1450s by Inca emperor Pachacuti as a retreat, but was abandoned within a century following the Spanish conquest. The Spaniards never discovered it, sparing it from the destruction faced by other Inca sites. Instead, it was gradually reclaimed by the jungle, preserving it from harm. A guided tour reveals the history of this awe-inspiring citadel, highlighting its most notable landmarks such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial, and the Burial Grounds. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch before boarding the train back to Cusco.
