This initial section involves an ascent until reaching the Chikiska area. After lunch, the group will descend to the first campsite on the banks of the Apurimac River, known as Rosalinas Beach. The day’s hike will last between 5 and 6 hours, depending on the group’s pace.
PLAYA ROSALINA – SANTA ROSA – MARAMPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO
Choquequirao - Starting very early, after breakfast, participants will embark on a physically demanding yet rewarding day of hiking. The trail leads to the mountain’s peak at Marampata (3000m above sea level), where lunch will be served to recharge energy, enabling the group to reach the summit of Choquequirao (3650m above sea level). Here, they will rest overnight, hopefully enjoying a stunning sunset from their comfortable tents. This day includes 10 km of walking.
CHOQUEQUIRAO – SANTA ROSA – CHIQUISCA
Choquequirao - The day begins at 5 am, and after breakfast, participants will visit the archaeological complex of Choquequirao, the most significant and remote point of the excursion. After exploring, the group will return to Cusco via the same route. Along the way, they will hike up to Chiquisca, where they will camp overnight at the final campsite. This day involves approximately 5 hours of hiking.
CHIQUISCA – CAPULIYUC – CACHORA – CUSCO
Cusco Cathedral - The day’s activities commence at 7 am for the final segment of the journey. Participants will hike to a final viewpoint called Wayna Qalli, offering a breathtaking view of the Apurimac River Canyon, considered one of the most spectacular in South America. Concluding the journey, the group will arrive at the town of San Jose de Cachora, where transportation will return them to Cusco, arriving around 5 pm. The day’s walk will take about 3 hours.
