  The Tarawasi sector is situated on the slope of the Limatambo valley, on alluvial lands where the Sondor, Colorado, and Chakimayo streams converge. It is positioned in a relatively elevated and visible area from the lower valley and the Sondor lands.

Historical accounts suggest that this site was commissioned by Inca Pachacutec to serve as a resting tambo along the route to the Chinchaysuyo region (east).
